Title: If we beat Florida
Post by: CobbWebb on September 14, 2012, 02:24:56 EDT
it will be because Dooley out coached Muschamp. Just look back at the last however many recruiting classes to see that Florida has done much better than UT in that department. So, hope that Dooley has a good gameplan and be prepared for a battle but know that Florida has more raw talent and should win. If they don't, Muschamp will have no excuses. Dooley is on thin ice already so it makes little difference to most Vols what talent deficiencies we have. Win it, baby!

The one thing that gives me hope is that we have a good pass blocking O line and we have two elite receivers and Florida will play hell trying to stop them.

One other thing: Smack talk means nothing and I don't believe in jinxes. The only thing smack talk does is make the talker look like a fool if his team gets beat. So, talk trash if you like but don't do it if you aren't prepared for payback.

The rankings are there, but I think several of their recruits haven't panned out.

Corch Herban's last class was considered by many to be the best ever, especially on defense.  Those guys were supposed to make the world forget about '92 bammer.  They've been pretty good, but haven't come close to the hype.

Our recent classes haven't been great on paper, but they have been developed pretty well (I don't know HOW with all the coaching turnover, but they have), and most importantly, the retention rate has been fantastic.  Other than Da'rick Rogers, just about everyone from the classes of 2010-12 is still around.

True, UT has developed their players and are looking good whereas Florida has done a horrible job and is lining up with some seriously troubled players

I think this year's brand of Gator reverse mojo is more bitter and derisive than most years.

It's true Florida is just loaded with former 4- and 5-star recruits, but CW, what has Muschamp done with them so far?

That's the key for me.  Dooley did at least have the excuse of a depleted roster (which we finally got tired of hearing).  "Boom" has no such excuse.

If they ain't got it done yet, are they going to against us tomorrow?  Maybe, but I really hope not.

Also, recall that they set a record for pass interference last year...AFTER Hunter got injured, and most of those players are back.  Even though they have a year's experience under their belt, that does not scare me, with a more experienced Bray and Hunter near full speed and CP to replace DR.

I still think...we MIGHT win.  Not overconfident at all.  But certainly this is the best I have felt about our chances since 2006, and that is a very good thing.

FL has had much more attrition in the last 3 classes than UT, and FL has not recruited well on the offensive side the last 2 years. It is going to bite them.

If most of those highly rated players were actually still on the team then I might agree with Cobb. And I'd be much more confident in the Gators' chances. But the attrition in the Florida program has been at epic proportions, which is evident on the field. Dooley is in his 3rd year.  He's supposed to be turning the corner with your program.  Muschamp will be in the same position next year, which will be his 3rd year, and I expect us to be turning the corner at that point.

It is starting to feel like a Tennessee-Florida game again. The heat is as high as I can remember in a long time. That's a good thing. Hopefully next season it will be a clash of top 10 teams.
