Title: More Gruden noise Post by: UTnbama on November 20, 2012, 08:28:33 EST I don't know about you guys but I'm hearing from people that Gruden is almost done. The folks I'm hearing this from are usually very reliable. Heard there has been substantial movement from Gruden's camp. Heck I'm even hearing that Jay Gruden might come on board as well, if nothing else pops up more substantial than a coordinator job. Shoot me if I'm wrong but that's definitely what I'm hearing now. GO VOLS!
Title: Re: More Gruden noise Post by: VinnieVOL on November 20, 2012, 12:14:01 EST Rucker did say that there are those in the UTAD that will be "absolutely stunned" if Gruden isn't our next coach.

Title: Re: More Gruden noise Post by: Black Diamond Vol on November 20, 2012, 01:25:17 EST I keep seeing that he is supposedly bringing Raheem Morris as his DC. I think this would be a mistake. With JG having been away from the CFB for so long, I think he would be better served bringing in coordinators who have been around and flourished in the college game. RM did spend one year as DC at Kasnsas State 6 years ago and that defense was only so-so. As we have seen with Monte Kiffin, even legendary NFL coordinators can have a hard time adjusting to the college game.
Not that this would be a deal breaker for me, but I would really hope that Gruden would go in another direction (toward Baton Rouge, perhaps?) Title: Re: More Gruden noise Post by: Screaming Eagle Dad on November 20, 2012, 03:46:48 EST GoVolsExtra reporting that Arkansas has offered Gruden the HC job there. Tennessee better get the right man for the job. Four coaches in 6 years is beyond stupid. I'll believe we have Gruden when there's a press conference. Chavis ain't coming back to Tennessee for the same reason that Cutcliff removed his name from the candidates...loyalty to Fulmer. I will say that there are two people that I think the new HC needs to keep on the new staff...Pittman and even more importantly Jay Graham. Need some orange blooded people here.
Title: Re: More Gruden noise Post by: Mean Old Man on November 20, 2012, 03:50:20 EST GoVolsExtra reporting that Arkansas has offered Gruden the HC job there. Yes, this was being reported last night. On top of that, Gruden wore a tie that appeared to have Arkansas colors during the MNF broadcast. As crazy as it is, some folks were reading alot into that. Now, as far as deal almost being done with the Vols, there are some interesting comments on Basilio’s blog this morning. Apparently, a man named Jack called in to his show and said a deal is already done. He did not say specifically say that it was Gruden, only that it was a “proven coach.” He also shed some light on how the hiring process works. Now, I am not buying it (although I would not fully dismiss it, it could very well be a prank). However, the man seems to have made a believer out of Basilio. Maybe it's legit, maybe it's pure BS. Either way its keeping people interested in all the Gruden sightings. Title: Re: More Gruden noise Post by: BanditVol on November 20, 2012, 09:19:08 EST ..Pittman and even more importantly Jay Graham. Need some orange blooded people here. Agree with both of these. If they feel compelled to keep a defensive coach, then the DL guy is about the only one you could justify. Also, the WR coach is the recruiting coordinator so you have to throw his name in there. The only locks are Pittman and Graham though. I personally like Chaney, but many do not. Would be odd for him to survive two coaching transitions, but it would be up to the HC I suppose. Title: Re: More Gruden noise Post by: Inspector Vol on November 20, 2012, 09:26:05 EST I cannot stand Chaney as a play caller. He is waaay smart about football but in being so smart he outsmarts himself. For example see the 2nd,3rd & short 20 yard passes down field. Just flood an area pick the one open get the 1st down and move on down the field if you aren't going to run it 2 times. That is what everyone else seems to do to us.
Of course I say that with all the credibility an anonymous internet poster has. No doubt at times we throw the ball down the field in situations where a short pass or run is the better option. But we did go to the run far more often this year, and with better results. I think I am a bottom line guy. If we are 20th in the country in offense, then I am happy. That's not to say there isn't room for improvement, there always is. Second half vs. Missouri and pretty much the whole game vs. Vandy make me wonder. Hope we hang half a hundred on Kentucky though. :dude: |
