Title: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: volsboy on November 30, 2012, 02:26:13 EST anchored/belly putters from pro golf. I say no matter how you putt you still have to make it. I think some conventional putters are just whining. Players have used this style for years.

There is a WORLD of difference in having to use both hands in the putting stroke vs having one end of the club anchored in your belly/chest. I say no matter how you putt you still have to make it. I think some conventional putters are just whining. Players have used this style for years. I think it makes sense. 3 vs. 2 points of contact= a purer swing, and thus an advantage in accuracy. My only question is, why weren't ALL tour pros using a belly putter in the first place? :dunno: Title: Re: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: droner on November 30, 2012, 02:37:36 EST I have no problem with that style. I've seen some guys anchor the putter to their forearm. They still can't out-put me.
I really don't see the big deal. Sports change, golf slower than most. If we hold to all of the old traditions we'd still be using gutta-percha and wooden mashies. I tried a long putter one time in a golf shop, the kind you put under your chin. It was too heavy and unwieldly. But if you think you're better sticking it under your chin or in your gut, bring it on. Title: I putt the conventional way (bad) but was just wondering why start this Post by: volsboy on November 30, 2012, 02:38:58 EST now. Heck a lot of junior golfers are being taught the anchor putter. I say leave it the way it is. The conventional putters could always change too.

To be fair, you had a head start .... :naughty: :nod:Title: Re: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: Coupe De VOL on November 30, 2012, 03:43:55 EST I'm still waiting on them to allow billiard cues
Title: Re: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: 101stDad on November 30, 2012, 03:51:50 EST I agree with Pirate. They never should have been allowed in the first place. Banning them is just part of making it golf again.

Title: Re: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: JeffCountyVolFan on November 30, 2012, 05:29:11 EST If Slammin'Sam couldn't putt from behind the ball, players shouldn't be allowed to anchor the putter. The rule about addressing the ball from the side was exclusively for Snead.

The rule about addressing the ball from the side was exclusively for Snead. Huh. Never knew that. I wonder why they targeted him? I say allow it. Golf is way too hidebound and "stupid rules oriented" as it is, IMO. Stuffy old game.....shake it up a bit! Title: Re: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: 101stDad on November 30, 2012, 02:30:27 EST It does have one redeeming social value - that is one heck of a club length when you need one :naughty: Uh, Pirate - you still have a foot wedge in your bag for that purpose. Title: Re: What do my fellow golfers on the board think about them outlawing Post by: PirateVOL on November 30, 2012, 02:35:28 EST Uh, Pirate - you still have a foot wedge in your bag for that purpose. Perish the thought! :hi5: |
