Title: Whatever you think of Strong turning us down Post by: BanditVol on December 06, 2012, 03:04:21 EST At least we went after what was widely perceived as one of the most, if not the most, "up and coming" coaches with ties to the SEC. Not a bargain bin hire at all, particularly if the $4 M offer number is accurate.
Gundy is not chopped liver either. Hart is definitely going after some big names. Hopefully he finds one soon to say yes. I applaud Hart for going after big names, but here's where I think he messed up. If you go after a big name you have to be prepared to offer the job immediately. You can't interview two big names and tell them you'll get back. That doesn't work.
You have to understand where the power lies, and that's with any coach who is currently in a good situation. If they have the power you can't act like you do. I think Hart did and that cost him. My guess is if he goes to Strong with an offer instead of just to interview UT has a coach now. |
