Title: One thing I find interesting about the coach search
Post by: Jean Voljean on December 07, 2012, 04:21:26 EST
is how fast it is supposed to be.  What has it been, three weeks now, not counting preliminary time?  Heck, most corporate boards would still be working on getting the search committee together.

Yes, I understand why, given the reality of recruiting, but the extreme time pressure must make it:

1.  Quite difficult to do a competent hiring job.  The time to do all the components of a properly done search, plus negotiations is unheard of in any other field.
2. Much more a matter of luck that we get the right coach as there is little likelihood that the AD can really do all the steps correctly in such a short timeframe.
3.  Likely that unless the AD gets lucky fast, desperation will dramatically increase the likelihood of an unwise hire and at a higher price.

It makes me wonder if, given the daily increasing probability that the above factors will contribute to Hart overpaying for a head coach who won't work out anyway - with another multimillion dollar buyout, would we actually be better off biting the bullet on a recruiting year so we can take a collective chill pill and let Hart take his time?

Just a thought.  Not really serious.
