Title: UT basketball fans . . . I hope you are prepared Post by: Clockwork Orange on December 11, 2012, 08:22:12 EST for the Vols to lose to Wichita State on Thursday night. Wichita is a better team than we are. As good as our defense has been, theirs has been slightly better . . . and their offense is significantly better. They are a very well coached team (Gregg Marshall . . . formerly at Winthrop and a guy UT considered at one point). Marshall has a matchup zone that he uses occasionally that I bet we see a lot of.
If Cuonzo is to right the ship, beating the Shockers would be a great place to start . . . but I don't see it. I think we fall to 4-4. Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . We will see mostly zone until we demonstrate that we can break it down or hit 3s consistently. :patriot:

Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . I hope you are prepared Post by: Inspector Vol on December 11, 2012, 09:11:47 EST Same problems we had last year (guard play) multiplied with no Maymon. He was the match up problem for most teams. He handles good enough to get by guys his size and smaller guys who can stay with him he dominates with his back to the basket.
Give this team a true legit pg who can create his own shot or someone else and another shooter and we would be good.....but we don't have that. Will we have it next year? What will we have next year? I assume all our bigs will be gone so......??? Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . But Wichita is as good or better than any of the three teams we have lost to so far, according to KenPom's stats. Code: SOS NC SOS Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . You geeks and your numbers. Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . I hope you are prepared Post by: Clockwork Orange on December 11, 2012, 09:41:32 EST You geeks and your numbers. I like the snarl and I'm pulling like hell for Cuonzo. But this offensive funk is some of the worst basketball I've ever seen. Just for giggles, some more geeky numbers . . . In Tennessee's three losses, it has scored 0.73, 0.68, and 0.68 points per possession (PPP) . . . * Grambling State has the worst offense in the NCAA and scores an average (adjusted for SOS) of 0.77 PPP. * Only once last year was UT's offense this bad, scoring 0.70 PPP in a loss to Vandy. * In the five years of the Bruce Pearl era, UT only had PPP this low three times . . . 0.64 vs. Butler in 2006-2007, 0.68 vs. Kentucky in 2009-2010, and 0.71 vs. Michigan in his final game in 2010-2011. That's three times in 206 games, while this team has done it three times in seven games. * Hilariously, in four years of Buzz Peterson UT never-- not once-- had PPP less than 0.73. What about Coach Green? Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . I hope you are prepared Post by: Clockwork Orange on December 11, 2012, 09:50:37 EST What about Coach Green? I don't have stats going back far enough, but as I recall scoring points was never a weakness so I doubt he had many games with offensive output this bad. I only have his final season and the team never scored below 0.8 PPP that season. The Kevin O'Neill era would be interesting and I'm not sure how bad the offense really was now that people keep up with tempo-free stats. He just played an extremely slow tempo . . . far slower than our very slow system under Cuonzo. Last season his 6-26 USC team scored below 0.73 PPP nine times though, so maybe his offenses truly are terrible. Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . Title: Re: UT basketball fans . . . I hope you are prepared Post by: Clockwork Orange on December 11, 2012, 10:00:02 EST Maymon used his redshirt when he transferred in from Marquette and had to sit. Nope. This is just Maymon's 4th year, and like all athletes he has 5 to play 4. He played partial seasons before and after his transfer time, so a redshirt was never used.
