Title: "Give 'em hell. We're Tennessee." Post by: Creek Walker on July 17, 2013, 05:54:49 EDT Gotta love Coach Majors. From today's KNS.
A Major(s) Story: Asked by a Rotarian about his relationship with former UT coaches, Jones recounted this gem about Vols legend Johnny Majors, who attended multiple spring practices. “We’re working with the kickoff team and it’s live,” he began. “We give up a return to about the 40-yard line and I go crazy. I say, ‘That’s not the standard for Tennessee football and how we’re going to play special teams.’ “Then I see Coach Majors and I say, ‘Coach Majors! Coach Majors! Is that right?’ “God bless him, Coach Majors, I’ve never see him move that fast. He sprinted out to the numbers, he takes his hat off and goes, ‘You’re God (darn) right Coach Jones, you give em hell. We’re Tennessee!” Title: Re: "Give 'em hell. We're Tennessee." Post by: Inspector Vol on July 17, 2013, 01:15:30 EDT   :dude:

Whether you believe he should have been fired or not, or Fulmer should have been fired or not, or took sides between those two guys, or whatever . . . you have to acknowledge that those two guys are as Tennessee as they come and the program is better when they can be around it. Title: Re: "Give 'em hell. We're Tennessee." Post by: Creek Walker on July 17, 2013, 07:13:51 EDT I'm a huge fan of Coach Majors and always have been. It is great to have him back in the program. Him joining the student section during the USCe game two years ago for the orange pants flash mob was classic.

Yep. Personally I thought it was time for both to go when they did...actually I thought they were late pulling the trigger on Fulmer, but I never doubted their love for Tennessee and had no animosity for either. Actually they were both great coaches but I think they both got a little complacent and couldn't see it themselves which led to a failure to make necessary adjustments. |
