Title: Butch says some of Worley's bad throws were fault of receiver route-running Post by: Creek Walker on September 02, 2013, 06:19:17 EDT FWIW.

I hope that's true because he certainly underwhelmed me. It seems hard to imagine a few of those bad throws being due to routes, since he threw so late (well after cuts being made). But, I'm certainly not a coach. It looked like Worley was waiting to see the full route before throwing. Said it's all about timing and when the receivers ran slightly wrong routes, it threw off the timing. I interpret that to mean that Worley was adjusting, which explains both him holding onto the ball too long and then throwing behind the receiver.
Again, that's just FWIW because I think it goes without saying that a really good QB can adjust on the fly and make some of those throws that Worley was off on. Clearly timing is huge in this offense, so hopefully that will come together with more time and experience. The throws behind the receivers concerned me because faster, smarter DBs could have picked a couple of those. North was running a fly and Worley flat out underthrew him. The only other route he could have been running was a post but that would have put him into Pig and their safety. Both Pig and North ran fly's about 10-15 yards apart
On the other incomplete (TD) pass perhaps North ran an incorrect angle but if so it was minute. Pig ran a slant (similar route to the one he ran for a TD on the next play) but was covered. Perhaps North ran it a bit too little of a slant. :dunno: Title: Re: Butch says some of Worley's bad throws were fault of receiver route-running Post by: PirateVOL on September 02, 2013, 09:14:28 EDT http://www.youtube.com/v/dYXGt38ofAw&feature=youtu.be
Title: Re: Butch says some of Worley's bad throws were fault of receiver route-running Post by: BanditVol on September 03, 2013, 03:09:00 EDT My take is that it's the first game of the season with almost brand new WRs and a relatively inexperienced QB, so of course the timing is off. Hopefully it will improve.
