The POTSMB has been driven into mediocrity under his leadership, and is not the least bit entertaining anymore. They were gifted the greatest show in all of college football (pregame) but not one other damn thing they do is worthy of the tradition. Title: Re: Gasp!! Bitter battle between the band and UTAD Post by: droner on October 09, 2013, 09:45:19 EDT Quarter changes, possession changes and other breaks in the action are to be filled — against past practice and tradition — by marketing commercials and “canned music” through the sound system, according to the statement.
I'm afraid this is the future. And apparently the present. I was watching a baseball game the other night and noticed the canned music being played. I missed the organist of old. The band playing at football games could be a thing of the past. I know there some here as old as I am who remember when the band's halftime performance was shown on TV. Sometimes, even the visiting band. Title: Interesting and kind of sad situation all at the same time. I was just Post by: volsboy on October 09, 2013, 10:30:54 EDT wondering how long other entities would survive on the coattails of the athletic department revenue. Unfortunately this is only the beginning. I see more programs falling by wayside as well. I wonder, is a lot of it due to the Vols not filling Neyland for the last few years? Opinions please.
Title: Re: Gasp!! Bitter battle between the band and UTAD Post by: murfvol on October 09, 2013, 10:38:31 EDT Canned music should never, ever, ever be used. That's why we have a band.
Title: Re: Gasp!! Bitter battle between the band and UTAD Post by: VinnieVOL on October 09, 2013, 10:45:14 EDT well, now this:

Bitter battle between the band and UTAD Post by: droner on October 09, 2013, 11:04:05 EDT As a clarification, the SEC provision states that the band can play in between plays, and not during plays. The band can play from the end of the preceding play until the point where the center is over the ball. The modification next year is that recorded music may be played instead of band music during those times.
This means more canned music next year. I'm a lawyer. I can read between the lines. Heck, we're the ones who write between the lines. Title: Re: Gasp!! Heck, we're the ones who write between the lines. What they don't mention is that the "recorded music" will likely accompany ads on the jumbotron. We should also probably brace ourselves for "Fort Sanders First Downs", "The Petros Pregame Show", and "The Vol Navy Presented by Sea Ray". And they'll probably start selling ad space on the team, band, and cheerleader uniforms. Heck, maybe we should even rename the stadium. "Zaxby's Field" has a nice ring to it. :frown: Title: Re: Gasp!! Bitter battle between the band and UTAD Post by: midtnvol on October 10, 2013, 01:57:30 EDT Wouldn't be so bad but the canned crap is garbage! I go to some TITANS games and it's all canned music usually accompanied by some video on the big screens. They play that stuff as loud as possible and it sux to the max. The new big screens themselves are great as far as replays go.Title: Re: Gasp!! Bitter battle between the band and UTAD Post by: Screaming Eagle Dad on October 11, 2013, 07:14:43 EDT The only thing I have to say negitive about the POTSL is Sousa's singing of the National Anthemn. I'm sure he loves singing it, but for me he does a terrible job at it.
I love the effort the band puts into what they do and I do appreciate them. It'll be a sad day when the band, from any school, is eliminated from football. I'm sure Pirate feels the same. It's Andrew Wentzel, Professor of Voice in the School of Music. I guess Bob Kessling was wrong the other day when he said Dr. Sousa's moving rendition of the National Anthymn. Wouldn't be the first time he was wrong. At any rate whoever sings it, its awful. Title: Re: Gasp!!
