Title: The Berry Bros. are all in
Post by: Creek Walker on November 04, 2013, 02:16:43 EST
Per VolQuest and Butch, who made one of his subtle tweets that doesn't violate NCAA rules but yet makes it clear what he's talking about.

No real surprise. I really wonder how we're going to fit them in, though. This is now 30 verbals.  :dunno:

29 I believe. Kameel Jackson decommitted, which is neither surprising nor bad. His situation has been weird and if we can get Josh Malone to replace him it'd be a big upgrade.

Ugh, lol.  I mean, I'm happy but at the same time I don't want tgem to squeeze out guys like Malone and Mosley.

I've seen speculation that Weatherd may be lost.  He's no longer an early enrolee, it would seem.

I hate to say it, but I'm the same way. It's great to have the Berrys on board. The Berrys are a big UT football family and that's what it's all about. My biggest hope was that we would keep Graham on the staff and add Tee Martin, and sign all the legacy recruits from this year. Now I'm looking at the other big names on the board and thinking that if the Berrys squeeze out a couple of 4-star prospects, I'm not sure that's a good thing.

Where will they play? Corner and safety?

Hard to say. One could end up at LB and the other at WR, from what I understand, or they could both remain DBs. I imagine it'll just be about evaluating where they fit when they get here. They're definitely good athletes but they're not all-world like Eric was (at least coming in) so there may be some development time and a position change or two.

Swain says this wasn't a planned and timed announcement, says "they surprised Butch this morning!"

They knew he needed some good news this morning.

He sputtered on the recruiting trail and his backs did not run as well last year as they have this year.  Frankly I see Gillespie as an upgrade over Graham.  I liked Graham, but thought he was not as good a coach as others have and shall be.  As for Tee I think Lame offered Tee a bunch of moola to keep him in LaLa Land since he was a Southern coach and Lame (stupid as he is) did see the potential for having a Southern guy coaching and recruiting for him.  (Ogeridiot never got coaching and recruiting in the South contrary to public perceptions)

Tee never had any intentions of returning to UT.  He played Butch for a trip back to Knoxville to watch his son play middle school basketball.  Tee's wife told him before they ever got on the plane that if he was moving back to Knoxville he was moving without her.  That was never going to happen.  Butch offered just as much money as Kiffin did.

I knew Tee was not coming back.  I frankly was not all caught up in the Tee would be the best thing to happen to this staff since Sliced Bread.  Frankly I think Azzanni is twice the receiver coach as Tee at this point.  That might change as Tee grows in the profession.  Do I hold any ill will towards Tee like others have stated on different Internet forums?  No I value Tee's contributions as a player and his devotion to his school previously, but I also am realistic enough to know that football is a business and Tee is earning his way forward and moving up in his profession.  If I was upset at that then I guess I should be wearing my Row Tahd T-shirt!!!!

Tee was the QB of the UT team that won a National Championship.  I hold him in high regard as a former Vol player.

He used his Alma Mater as a pawn in his current profession.  I have no respect for that and don't give a rats ass where he ends up coaching from here on out.

Agree 100% about Tee.
Getting the Berry twins is great for UT, just hope they are close to what Eric turned into for us.

So that's what, six legacies in this class?  I wonder if that's a record. :dunno:

Maybe BDV. Something close if you count Wharton. May be the silver lining in our historical valley, and just in the nick of time! Sometimes a half dozen players can make a tremendous difference. More so in the NFL, but college, too. I can only name Kelly, Jr., Bates, the Berry twins, Wharton. Who am I missing? There have to be others in years ahead. Can't hurt. :powert:

What if both Berry twins turned out to be as talented as Eric?  I know that's a pipe dream, but..... :naughty:
