How and why is that conference so much better in basketball than the SEC? I still consider the Big 10 a football conference. Why can't the SEC get more talented basketball players?

Yep. Major metros like NY, Philly, Chicago, and Detroit are pretty much wastelands when it comes to blue chip football recruits. But they churn out a TON of hoops talent.
