My first job out of college was at an agricultural chemical company in Springdale, AR. We were maybe a mile from Shiloh Christian, where Malzahn coached. It was a little bitty start-up school. I think they were 3A, but had <100 students.
Anyhow, Malzahn would come in to buy stuff to take care of the field. He did it all. The funny thing is his offenses were considered pass happy (they were) gimmicks that would never work in a larger classification. That was until Springdale High School got desperate and hired him several years later. He's paid his dues, and I'm thrilled to see him do well. He's very like Saban in that both are detail oriented. That's what makes them successful, not a style. He did that when he was with Nutt, and when he was OC under Chizik. A lot of coaches don't do this simple thing.
