Title: I don't know what thread it was.......
Post by: Screaming Eagle Dad on January 09, 2014, 07:53:35 EST
in but someone mentioned something about Randy Sanders going to Duke as the OC reuniting with Cutcliffe. I know its speculation though. Does anyone consider that a move up for Sanders? Does anyone really think that Duke can maintain the success they have had this year? On the one hand if Sanders can go there and do well for 2-3 years he may punch his ticket to a HC gig, on the other, he goes there and screws the pooch he punch his ticket out of town back to a postion coach at much lower level school. Thoughts?

I think it's a step up. Sanders has proven himself enough that he can always be a position coach at a fairly elite school, but OC opportunities at a BCS school* don't just come along every day. Good opportunity, IMO, if Cutcliffe extends an offer. I hope he takes it and does well. I don't think he was a bad playcaller at UT.

*What are we gonna call the SEC/ACC/B1G/Big12/Pac12 schools next year when the BCS ceases to exist?

Yes.  Definitely a step up.  In 99% of the cases if one can go from a position coach at a BCS league school to a coordinator at a BCS school it is a step up.

Not only would Sanders get a huge boost in pay, but he'll also be much closer to his Morristown, TN, home.   He was a candidate for the head coaching job at ETSU, but they went with Carl Torbush instead.  A big part of the pull for that job with Sanders was Johnson City's proximity to Morristown.
