Title: Well, they are already pimping next Saturday's game vs. Mizzou... Post by: Black Diamond Vol on March 01, 2014, 09:48:12 EST ...as the biggest game of the season for both teams, as a play-in game for the tourney. So with 7 full days of hype heading into that one, does anyone doubt that our team will shrink from the occasion? I will bet money that they'll either lose to Mizzou or lose the midweek game at Auburn, making the Mizzou game a moot point.
Some teams live for the big games. We're not one of them. Not anymore. :frown: Title: Re: Well, they are already pimping next Saturday's game vs. Mizzou... Post by: volsboy on March 01, 2014, 10:47:04 EST That's why the NCAA tourney is kind of false success. Really, should a sixty-four ranked team have a shot at the national title? I know it is great to have the cinderella teams come forward, but how many of them end up with a Final Four or better finish? Not many throughout the history of the tourney. A few have done well recently but overall not more than a handfull. Usually one of these teams beat a highly ceded team only to get blown out their next game. I think 32 teams were plenty, 64 is just for the $$$.

Playing this well today can not be followed up by this group. They do just enough to tease us they yank it away real quick.
Reminds me of a girlfriend I had in 1967. Title: Re: Well, they are already pimping next Saturday's game vs. Mizzou... I think she became a Nun or something. :dunno:Title: Re: Well, they are already pimping next Saturday's game vs. Mizzou... I think 32 teams were plenty, 64 is just for the $$$. Disagree. In fact, the very first year the tourney was expanded to 64, Villanova won it all. They wouldn't even have made the field if it was still 32. Wichita State was a 9 seed last year, and made the Final Four. Three years ago, the tourney expanded from 65 to 68, adding a couple new play-in games. VCU played in one of them as an 11 seed, and advanced all the way to Final Four. If the tourney were still at 64 or 65, they don't make it in. NC State. Butler. That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm forgetting several. History shows that expansion has only made the tourney better every time it has been implemented. That's not to say they should ratchet up to 256 teams, but I wouldn't complain if they were to add a few more play-ins. Title: Re: Well, they are already pimping next Saturday's game vs. Mizzou... Gotta beat Aubie first though. Title: Re: Well, they are already pimping next Saturday's game vs. Mizzou... Post by: volsboy on March 04, 2014, 06:22:11 EST I agree that it is a great feeling for an underdog to win. I cheer for them every year in the tourney. But should a team that is the 54th ranked team ,for example, and just gets hot at the right time, really be the National Champ.

If a team is ranked 54th and wins the tourney, which I am not sure has ever happened, then they definitely deserve it because that's a helluva effort and accomplishment. Not sure what you're getting at.... There are 68 teams in, so the 54th ranked team should be included. If they win it all, more power to em. |
