Title: Our Defense Post by: RipleyVol12 on October 13, 2014, 06:51:31 EDT Per NCAA.com we have the #16 total defense in the nation. Only Bama, UGA, and Ole Piss have better defenses in the SEC. So I have some faith in them. Not #1but hey considering the last 3-4 years I'm happy with it.
GO VOLS!!! :powert: Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: Tnphil on October 13, 2014, 06:58:32 EDT It's like some teams with Fulmer...we would have a top 10-12 defense like 2005....but we couldn't score at a hookers convention.
Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: RipleyVol12 on October 13, 2014, 07:02:07 EDT It's frustrating. If our Oline was worth a craps we might be able to make it more interesting. I'm hoping I'm wrong and they dominate this weekend but I don't see it.

You have personal knowledge?? :naughty: :wow:   :dude:Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: Clockwork Orange on October 13, 2014, 07:10:15 EDT In schedule-adjusted S&P we are 12th-- 19th against the run, and 9th against the pass. We're 6th on standard downs, and 25th on passing downs.
See below for those same numbers from past years. While there is still a lot of football to be played, statistically this is the best and most well-rounded defense Tennessee has had since 2005-- better than the Monte Kiffin D, and at least on par with the last several Chavis defenses. Considering how horrible we were in 2012 this has to be recognized as a remarkable coaching job by the defensive staff. Just incredible. 2013: 46th, 74th, 23rd, 40th, 59th 2012: 81st, 83rd, 84th, 95th, 62nd 2011: 47th, 36th, 54th, 41st, 44th 2010: 49th, 66th, 47th, 47th, 75th 2009: 21st, 34th, 23rd, 21st, 34th 2008: 22nd, 2nd, 44th, 5th, 27th 2007: 35th, 11th, 70th, 35th, 42nd 2006: 21st, 29th, 26th, 31st, 23rd 2005: 8th, 8th, 12th, 6th, 20th Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: PirateVOL on October 13, 2014, 07:12:04 EDT In schedule-adjusted S&P we are 12th-- 19th against the run, and 9th against the pass. Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: BanditVol on October 14, 2014, 03:12:23 EDT Very nice stats Clock O, and indicative of what I was thinking of this offense.
We may well hold Ole Piss below 30... Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: Black Diamond Vol on October 14, 2014, 03:51:25 EDT Next year's D could be one of the best in UT history, especially if either or both of the incoming DTs live up to their billing. We are going to have potential All-SEC playmakers at every level: Barnett at DE, Mac and/or Tuttle at DT, JRM and Weatherd at LB, TK2 and Cam at DB, and Magitt lining up all over the place. That is a lot of ballhawks that opposing offenses are going to have to scheme around. And depth is going to be pretty good as well, especially up front. Consider what we looked like on D two years ago, and now we might have our most star power on that side of the ball since 98. Pretty awesome.
Title: Re: Our Defense Post by: BanditVol on October 14, 2014, 06:57:24 EDT Yeah....if the offense improves even half as much we'll be pretty good.
