Title: Hubbs posted (some) of the rest of the story on Martinez
Post by: PirateVOL on September 07, 2015, 05:33:42 EDT
It seems he and Tennessee are receiving far tougher punishment than a school with wholesale academic fraud (I'm looking at you UNC) will get.  All for an athlete we were not serious contenders for.

The NCAA's days have to be numbered. They rake in loads, and do, umm, I'm not sure what.

The punishment seems mild to me.  A one-game suspension and some minor limits on recruiting contacts.

When's the last time you heard about an assistant coach being suspended?

Yeah. When I heard the news Saturday, I thought it must've been self-imposed. I was stunned when I learned it was an NCAA-imposed sanction.

I'm not necessarily offended that Martinez was suspended, but I'm curious about why there seems to be a double-standard yet again.

I can't say, but I don't track that either.

This may work to our advantage.  Let's say for arguments sake that Martinez being out was the leading contributor to our pass D woes on Saturday.  He comes back for OU, we do much better than expected on pass D and win going away.  So that the net effect was to lull OU into complacency.    :naughty:

I think Martinez being out was a factor in how long it took us to make corrections. I also think that was the most vanilla pass defense scheme-wise we could possibly have been playing. Between those two nuggets I think there's reason to suspect the defensive backfield will look considerably better this week.

It better get better or we are in big trouble.....There was some very bad technique being played by most of our DBs too. That can and should be corrected already or by sundown today......I hope.
