Title: Game Report
Post by: PirateVOL on October 16, 2016, 02:56:00 EDT
We sucked, details below
QB: Dobbs ha d his worse game since possible at MO his FR year.  He made a LOT of poor decisions.  I don't think so much in the run game as their LBs are that good.  On the pick 6 he was going to Hurd no matter what, even with 4 defenders around him.  Have to throw it in the ground there.  Other times he had open receivers but threw to a covered receiver, usually behind them.

RB:  not observed.  No room to run and covered well in the flats or,on the swings

OL:  I think Hall was hurt going into the game.  He had extreme issues in the first drive getting into proper postition, I think due to poor footwork.  Tatum played reasonably well, got beat a couple of times but was better than Hall.  He was not good in the run game but he joined the rest of the OL.  They actually passed blocked better as the game went along but the entire line Maybe had two good run plays

Defense
DL:  when your scout team DT gets significant PT you are in trouble, though 55 played reasonably well in the 2nd QTR, better than Phillips inside in the 2nd half IMO.  DB9 came to play, the other DEs not so much.  Best move by the DL was KMac's flop when he hurt his shoulder, was Gauldenesq

LB:  current players 3 primary ones that played) are NOT SEC quality and showed it.  Other than a couple of blitzes Jumper was a liability.  Berry played ok with plays I. Front of him but had almost as bad discipline on miss direction as Jumper.  Bates played but did nothing of note.

DB:  backside, no discipline.  To be fair they had a good scheme against our defense but we never really adjusted
Safeties were abysmally slow.  Kelly had a lot of tackles but was out of position a lot, his miss led to Micah's injury.

ST:  In the first half really kept us in the game.  Then a bad punt left to a TD and bad punt coverage led to another, and an ankle injury to Berry.  Medley was good and since we had a lot of practice today our KRs were good.

Coaching:  Not our best effort though we had some nice concepts on offense coming out of the half.  The OL limited some of our calls I'm sure but poor execution doomed any offensive or defensive adjustments.  Where I am most disappointed is that the same issues that were in the first game were still there today.  Inability to set an edge (and when DB9 did set an edge there were no LBs in position to make the play).  We did not handle the mis direction at all, period. Dot.  4 times Hurt went right on the same play, we have not reacted to it yet.

Can we come back?  Yes IMO but we first need to get some people health.  The coaches need to self scout (I could call some of our plays).  I'm not sure getting the fron 6 in correct position is doing us much good when we are in bad positions during the plays.  Did the change in S&C lead to this blizzard of injuries, a LOT of shoulder injuries.

One othe observation:  JRM, a captain, was NOT on the field today.  Not during war ups, not for the coin toss and not during the game, that I saw.

Good account of the game Pirate.....I said this morning 44-28. Just can't go to a gun fight with a peashooter and today out peashooter was half loaded. There were some issues today that I won't get into because getting butt reamed at home is bad enough for 1 day.

Butch has to get a OC with imagination if he's going to win championship(s). Need some other changes in the staff as well. Butch needs to understand he's in big boy football and needs to coach like it. He coaches too much like he's still at Central Michigan or Cincy. And recruiting must get much better than it is right now if you are going to beat the big boys when they are as good or better than we are.

It's good to be 5-2...but we are really lucky to be 5-2. As usual we are in the old mode of hoping Florida loses. :banghead:
