Title: Coaching seniority in SEC Post by: BanditVol on October 27, 2016, 04:14:28 EDT With 3 new East coaches this year and the firing of Miles, satan is now the dean of SEC coaching
West satan 10 Mullin 8 Sumlin/Freeze 5 Bielema/Malzahn 4 Orgeron (interim) 1 East Jones/Stoops 4 Mason 3 donkey 2 Muschump/Odom/smart 1 So now Jones is the longest tenured coach in the East and there are only 4 coaches with a longer tenure, two of which are only a year more. Wow things change pretty quickly nowadays. It's interesting to rank Jones along with the coaches that came in about the same time he did.... Malzahn - hard to argue with making it to the MNC first season Freeze - in by a hair over Butch, due to beating bammer twice and briefly being ranked no. 1 (otherwise records are remarkably similar) Jones - has done really well considering where he started from. Real test is next season and beyond. Could move up a notch this season if it goes well at end. Sumlin - this season may move him up, but every other season is a late season collapse Bielema - would have been higher prior to this season Mason - Where IS that list of plays? Recent upset of uga moves him up one notch Stoops - doing about as well as you can at UK, but that's pretty bad Overall I am happy with Jones. Assuming he hold serve this season (10-2 and a trip to Atlanta), survives next year (no worse than 8-4) and makes the playoffs in 18 or 19, he can move on up the list |
