Title: Before our game kicks off, I just want to re-state for the record...
Post by: Black Diamond Vol on September 04, 2017, 11:57:11 EDT
...that I believe putting Georgia Tech on the schedule was, and is, a horrible idea.  Whatever positives come from playing a high-profile game in a shiny new stadium are far outweighed by the negatives:

1.  This is a lose-lose type of game.  We win, and we just did what we were supposed to do, beat an out-manned mid-tier ACC opponent.  We lose (and we very well could), and...well, we'll cross that bridge if it happens, but it surely won't be good.

2.  For a team with our injury history to schedule an opponent that employs the cut-block as much as Tech is pure insanity.  Why tempt fate?  The last time we faced an offense like this was Air Force in 2006.  Not only did we nearly lose the game, but we lost Justin Harrell for the season, and, oh yeah, Inky Johnson pretty much lost his right arm.  And Tech has bigger and stronger guys than AF.  Mark my words, win or lose we're going to come out of this game with more injured defenders.  Because we're Tennessee, and that's what we do.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, and this is the last I'll speak of it tonight.  Go Vols! :powert:

Lol, I've seen more negative vibes from Vol fans going into this year than I have in a long time.  I get last year was a disappointment, bit this is special!  Everyone gets injuries, even if it "seems" it's only us.

I know you don't feel this way, but I'm convinced some would prefer us fire Jones now and just go ahead and forfeit the season.

I agree that Georgia Tech is a poor choice, but mostly because they run the option and it's basically a home game for them.  Having said that, at least it isn't OU or Oregon.

Also, I don't know if I agree they are mid-tier.  They have a claim to 4th best team in the ACC last year.  I guess that's mid-tier?   :dunno:  But upper half for sure.

Yeah, forget all that rah rah stuff I said earlier.  You were 100% spot on.  Terrible matchup.

I just hope our shizzle run D was the matchup and not the D.
