But this does make sense: https://www.rockytoptalk.com/2017/11/29/16717112/tennessee-coaching-search-les-miles-lsu-college-football (https://www.rockytoptalk.com/2017/11/29/16717112/tennessee-coaching-search-les-miles-lsu-college-football) Title: Re: McBride wants a Mad Hatter Post by: BanditVol on November 30, 2017, 01:04:26 EST He mentions a sputtering offense, and then compensating with a "strong offensive staff". The problem is, that was tried at LSU at least 2, maybe 3 times. They kept shuffling in highly regarded OCs, and it made not a bit of difference.
Given our issues on offense this year, Sumlin would be a much better fit. And beyond that, while Miles is a solid, good coach, much better than Jones (although known to have his own unique in-game brain farts), I just get a vibe that he completely spent himself at LSU. It's not just that he's old, but the whole saga of inheriting a really good program from Saban, just managing to win an NC with 2 losses, then slowly grinding down over the years in spite of being overun with talent (no joke...on Opening Day, LSU had more NFL players than...anyone) means he hasn't got anything left. Miles at UT would IMO be a continuation of his decline, and ... again IMO, his ceiling would be akin to his last 4-5 years at LSU. Just a bit better than Butch. We need more than that. |
