Title: Scholarship Player Numbers Post by: Tnphil on September 04, 2019, 09:12:42 EDT I'd say most of Pruitt's players are freshman...redshirt freshman...Soph's that played last season and some Pruitt took his first class that Butch was recruiting?
Nathanael Rutherford @Mr_Rutherford With Jordan Murphy and Terrell Bailey leaving the Vols' football program, Tennessee now has 80 scholarship players. Of those 80 players, 35 signed under Butch Jones and 45 signed under Jeremy Pruitt. 9:48 AM - 4 Sep 2019 Title: Re: Scholarship Player Numbers Post by: SmokeyJoe on September 04, 2019, 11:44:11 EDT Like most Vol fans, I've thought in circles on last weeks debacle. I'm back to thinking they have to give him time barring something unprecedented like 0-12 or 2-10. If he is fired there we go again. I'm old enough to remember Johnny Majors era. It was quite a roller coaster. 0-6 to start in 1988, for example. Year 12.
Title: Re: Scholarship Player Numbers Post by: SmokeyJoe on September 04, 2019, 11:49:49 EDT I wish we had another viable option than the current qb. I think he is a very fine young man, but his on the field issues are bad. I really wonder if the guy hasn't been hit so hard, so much that he has been ruined. Or maybe it will click for him like it did Crompton.
Title: Re: Scholarship Player Numbers Post by: Tnphil on September 05, 2019, 12:46:29 EDT We can hope, SmokeyJoe.....When the defense doesn't respect your QB's ability you are in a world of hurt.
Title: Re: Scholarship Player Numbers Post by: Creek Walker on September 05, 2019, 01:32:52 EDT I’m usually not someone to clamor for the backup QB, but if JG struggles against BYU like he struggled against GaSt, I wouldn’t mind seeing Maurer. Not gonna happen because it appears the staff wants to redshirt him, and I don’t hold out great hope of him being a better option...he would’ve shown it in practice, I think. But sometimes it doesn’t hurt to shake things up a bit. I heard Pruitt say the offense wasn’t the problem against GaSt...well, I guess technically the O played well enough to win, but playing good enough to beat GaSt’s D isn’t something worth writing home about. Aside from those 2 TD droves in the first half, the O only looked good in spurts and couldn’t finish drives.

Shrout got 3 times the reps that Maurer did and 2 times the reps Gitmo did. Would be interesting if that was the same today? JG will start but I wonder what kind of leash he'll be on? The opportunity to forge a dynasty for 20 years was in 2001, and it was squandered. Ain't easy getting off the mat :banghead: |
