Pruitt on QBs: We have not gotten great play from that position in 3 of the 4 games. We’ve got guys who have ability. You’ve got to take it from the practice field to the game field. Jarrett is a better QB than that. He’s got to play better than that.

Pruitt on Maurer: It’s a tough situation. But he came here to play. We tried to give him an opportunity. He did OK, but he’s got some things to improve on. When you get the opportunity to play, you’ve got to play clean football.

Pruitt on QB change: It's the thing about playing QB. I think Jarrett has lots of ability to be a good player. But there are times you have to take the bull by the horns and say lets go. You have to have an impact on the people around you. (& you just had a NEGATIVE impact on two (2) QBs, a team and a fan base Pruitt!)

I can excuse bad plays from a true freshman.....I can not and will not excuse a 3 year starter that's a redshirt junior. JG is bad and will not get much better....if not worse.

and coaching cannot be his problem He just can't play.

My goodness Pruitt bungled that. It’s easy to say a coach is in over his head, but Pruitt’s handling of the QB situation today is the clearest indicator yet of a coach who’s in completely over his head.

You now have 2 QBs with screwed up heads. Pruitt is clueless.

Well I know you have actually been a football coach for many years, and I definitely respect that, but I am always of the school that says if Maurer is a true competitor, it won't fizzle him up mentally.  In fact, mental toughness is the sign of a winner, just ask Bobby Knight.   :naughty:

I've seen enough of JG to question his mental toughness, but what little I've seen of Maurer tells me he's a competitor.  If having to sit after the 3-4 series he played "screws with his head", then maybe we don't want him to be QB anyway.  Just MO....

Let me add that their are people or have been people who claim Fulmer yanking Ainge for one series against an OOC opponent early in the 2005 season messed him up, and in fact was our entire downfall that season. I just roll my eyes. If something like that messed Ainge up, then he never had it to begin with.  His later play says he did have it, but needed some seasoning.  2005 was not a good year for him, he totally melted down vs LSU that year, for instance.  Some attribute that to Fulmer yanking him earlier in the year.  I don't, and I think it's ridiculous to blame an entire season of struggling on one series early in the year.

JG is terrible & should never play another down at UT. I'd do ANYTHING but put him back out there. He has graduated. He can do whatever he wants. Maurer got a little wild, but the play calling was suspect in the second possession. JG may well have been ruined with two seasons of starting behind horrific lines. Too late. Maurer will be fine. Shrout too. I'm ready to roll with Kasim Hill, Maurer, Shrout, and Bailey. It just Cannot be that hard to get serviceable play at qb. Oh, and bench Nigel Warrior too. He is welcome to get! :old:

You never want a QB looking over his shoulder and thinking he will get pulled for making a mistake. When you pull a QB for another you should ride with it and not look back. There's a difference going into a game saying we are going to play both QBs. Yesterday was yanking JG because he was sucking and then pulling M because he made some mistakes only to put the one that sucked back in.

I'd go to the single wing before JG ever saw the field again. But....I'd bet my good mule and my 1960's Farmall tractor Pruitt trots his azz out there come the UGA game.

I agree that putting JG back in was very puzzling.  The annoucers were even caught off guard, they were like "Maurer hands off the ball.  No wait...um, Guarantano...is...back in the game?  Yes Guarantano is...back in."  They all but said "what the fizzle".   :dielaughing:  Which is exactly what I was thinking.

I get what you say about a QB looking over his shoulder, but again, if the kid's got it, he will respond well to that pressure.  Now whether that approach allows the QB to learn from his mistakes in a timely manner is a good point.

But yeah, game was pretty much over anyway, why put JG back in?  And then let game time expire without using TOs...definitely Pruitt has raised several flags this season.   He has 8 more games to right the ship.  Not holding my breath, but am hoping for the best.  Would love to not have to do that for the first time in 12 years, but ....  :banghead:

I'd play JG the first half of both Bama and UGA. Mauer gets every other snap.

Not taking that bet, wouldn't be prudent ... :frown:

Not totally sure I wouldn't start JG in the UGA game. Not sure I'd want my true freshman starting his first game against UGA :biggrin:

True. Put JG out there in the first half. Let him get his clock cleaned AGAIN, much of it his own doing. 🙄

I wonder if Pruitt is afraid that an underclassmen potentially seizing the starter's role might scare Harrison Bailey off. Not that that would be a valid excuse- I can't imagine any highly-rated QB sticking by a commitment to a 1-11 team anyway. :frown:

I googled Bailey. He ain't the guy next year. He is a baby. My money is on Hill to start next year. JMO.

Don't think for a second that's not factored into it....If our backup was a redshirt soph or Jr then maybe not as much but ours are true freshman.

Well I'm no more, or less expert, but Bailey ain't the guy next year. Trust me. I have it on my own observation. Doubt he even shaves yet  :powert:

Yep!  What I think also.

The point is you have to get his signature on the dotted line and on campus first. Worry about the rest when that happens. I've seen him play a few times and he has the tools bar none. It takes a special talent for and true freshman to come in and start but that's what a large % of UT fans are wanting to happen right now.
