Title: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: VinnieVOL on November 06, 2019, 10:16:16 EST Wonder what the deal with Mauer is? If he was truly available last week as JP said, why didn't he play?
Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: BanditVol on November 06, 2019, 10:29:37 EST I voted for who I want to start, not who I think will. I think Pruitt will trot Shrout out again and then replace him with JG.
I also think, as has been speculated on other sites, that Pruitt is constantly mind-fizzleing opposing coaches by being deliberatly misleading. He learned it from Saban, who learned it from Belicheat. It's pretty common anyway. I do think and hope Maurer can start though. I'd put it at 40% Maurer 50% Shrout, 10% JG. Jennings will play QB fairly often, but odds of starting are 0.1%. :toothless: Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Maybe Pruitt intended to work Mauer in vs UAB a little bit but then saw their DL blowing up our OL and changed his mind. Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: PirateVOL on November 06, 2019, 10:54:55 EST Wonder what the deal with Mauer is? If he was truly available last week as JP said, why didn't he play? I think they simply wanted to give Mauer an extra week of recovery, to be ready for the SEC schedule.I do not think there are any real reasons beyond that Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: Creek Walker on November 07, 2019, 04:36:31 EST JG flabbergasts me. He played very well against South Carolina only to come back and completely suck it up against UAB. That kid must be one heck of a head case. So, let's hope Maurer is truly ready to go. If he isn't, any and all of these next 3 could be losses. Especially the next 2, since they're on the road. With him, I like our chances in all 3.
Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: Black Diamond Vol on November 07, 2019, 02:41:40 EST I think Maurer is done for at least this season.
But don’t worry guys- it sounds like Tua is gonna be OK.👌 Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: Coupe De VOL on November 07, 2019, 06:18:00 EST I think Pirate is right - they were resting Maurer, giving him more time to recover...which I fully endorse. I assume he would have played if we really needed him. If they think Maurer is near 100%, I assume he will start against UK.
UK is a must win if we want to go bowling, IMO. If we lose, I don't think we will win out the last two. Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: Tnphil on November 07, 2019, 08:29:05 EST If Maurer is out for the season I see no reason why he's practicing and dressing...I read yesterdays practice report and based on those reports every reporter said Maurer was taking 1st team practice reps during the open period that reporters were allowed to be there....Just can't understand why that would be the case if he's done for the season. Unless Pruitt just wants that to be reported that he's getting 1st team reps when in fact he won't play. But I don't believe that.
The whole QB situation has been odd IMO. Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: JeffCountyVolFan on November 08, 2019, 12:44:07 EST If Maurer is cleared and doesn't play then I don't understand the thinking.
Whoever gets the snaps, I just want a W! Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: BanditVol on November 08, 2019, 04:26:50 EST I think they wanted Mauer to have one more week of rest. I also don't think Vinnie's speculation that Pruitt might have wanted to play him but decided not too during the game is reasonable.
However I am sticking by saying Pruitt is creating uncertainty for Stoops and his staff. They have to study film on 3 QBs plus worry about JJ. And film on two of the three is limited. 😁 Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: HerbTarlekVol on November 08, 2019, 05:28:52 EST Word around town is that it's Maurer's game tomorrow.
Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: volsboy on November 08, 2019, 05:59:27 EST I just want the guy that can get the W. It is a QB driven game and we need to find "that guy" soon. Mauer for now.
Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: VinnieVOL on November 08, 2019, 08:54:52 EST Lol saw this in a tweet today...
"JG has had 5 drives inside the opponent's 5 yard line this year. Opponents have out scored him 7-3 on those drives." :hurl: Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Post by: Tnphil on November 08, 2019, 10:27:37 EST This was posted on TOS.....This is against SEC competition.
— Three touchdowns — Four made field goals (one missed) — Four scores in eight trips to the red zone (1 TD and 3 FGs) — 12 punts — Four turnovers (1 INT and 3 fumbles) — Two turnovers on downs — Six three-and-outs — Only eight drive And worst of all, five times Guarantano has led drives inside SEC opponents’ 5-yard-line: two turnover on downs, one field goal, one interception and one fumble that was returned for a defensive TD. So, in drives against SEC teams when No. 2 has the Vols’ within five yards of the end zone, our opponents are out-scoring us 7-3. Incredible.Counting all the games from 2017 and 18, Guarantano has started 15 SEC games and played in a handful more. The most points Guarantano-led drives have produced in a game is 24, which happened vs both Kentucky and South Carolina last year. Title: Re: Which QB on Saturday? Sent this to some friends. One of them informed me that the JG led offense scored 26 points against UK in 2017. It was a loss, but we did get 26. We had 30 against AU last season, but 7 of those were from the A. Taylor fumble recovery in the end zone. |
