I saw him pitch in Atlanta when he was a Met. I also saw Nolan Ryan pitch in Atlanta as a Met. He was young then. You could hear the catchers mitt pop all over the stadium. Nowadays they won't even look at you if you can't throw 95+ it seems.

Think of all the dominant Mets pitchers: Seaver, Ryan, Gooden, Cone, Syndegard, DeGrom, etc. And the only guy with a nono to his credit is...a past his prime Johan Santana.

They had so much batting power with The Big Red Machine, but he was the key pitching piece they needed to go with that, if my memory serves correctly. It was fun to follow the Reds back in those days.
