I think our TEs coach is a given to stayI think it even $$ for Graham to stay I think 1-% Steele stays Frankly, Martinez is the only UCF coach I would want Title: Re: Team Meeting at 0830 Post by: VinnieVOL on January 27, 2021, 03:04:07 EST I get the sense that White went for several bigger fish, but the $$ he was offering wasn't worth the unknown of the possible NCAA complications to them. Which, I guess is fair. I guess we just really got our hopes up with such a home run hire of an AD.
I don't hate the Heuple hire, but... I don't love it. Title: Re: Team Meeting at 0830 Post by: murfvol on January 27, 2021, 03:04:53 EST I'm fine with those guys staying.
Title: Re: Team Meeting at 0830 Post by: JeffCountyVolFan on January 27, 2021, 04:12:21 EST I'm all in with Heupel now. I'm pulling for him to bring the program back.
I have believed from the beginning that the success of the new coach, regardless of who it ended up being, was always going to be about the staff that he assembles. UT is not going to recruit top 5 talent until they can consistently defeat the teams we are supposed to beat and then begin to compete more effectively with the top tier teams. We need a staff that can develop the talent we have to that level. There is no easy way to do that - it will take time and hard work. When that is accomplished, you can begin to go into those 5* kids' homes and sell them that you are building a winner. We must have a top notch staff. Hopefully the administration will provide financial support to bring in the coaching staff that Heupel will need to be successful. Go get a top level staff. I think the emphasis needs to be on hiring guys who can develop talent over recruiting, at least at this point. We’re not landing top 5 classes anytime soon, anyway. Those recruits won’t give us the time of day until we’re free of NCAA issues and, more importantly, showing some upward trajectory on the field. Right now, just find coaches who can somehow coax 6-7 wins out of one of the worst rosters in the SEC. Once you’ve reached that level, THEN go and find some ace recruiters.
