Title: How many "linebackers" does Tim Banks utilize? Seems I remember
Post by: SmokeyJoe on July 16, 2022, 04:19:47 EDT
reading UT utilizes 4-2-5?  :dunno: I do know we have a number of "edge" rusher recruits in the 6'2" - 6'5" & 210-230 range... that seems like a linebacker to me. Joshua Joseph is one. Interesting. Probably won't help much this year, but maybe we aren't all that depleted at LB going forward.

we actually had 3 LBs on the field at times in the early games till the injuries

We need better, more consistent edge play. young is quick but needs to work on his skill set. Barron needs to stay healthier

We also played more zone blitz than a lot of people thought last year, the new guys fit into that scheme as well

The biggest improvement needed this year is two fold:
1) keep the QB under control - that KILLED us last year, the new athletes hopefully can help their.Part of that was edge play but a lot of it was poor LB play

2) tackle the RBs!  It was a problem all year but got much worse as the year went along (see the KY game as example A) That was was a big reason for us not being able to get off the field

Mitchell should help a lot this year if he stays healthy! Still seem precariously thin at LB. It would be nice if Mohan stepped up, and Jackson Hannah... but they took Hannah as a walk on... He was decent ranked recruit at MBA, I thought.
