Title: Wide Receivers
Post by: PirateVOL on November 19, 2023, 03:43:44 EST
Interesting to me is that Nimrod started outside and was replaced fairly quickly by Webb.
When Squirrel suffered an "undetermined lower extremity" issue (he was limping pretty good) Nimrod came in at the slot and actually did well

The WRs have improved considerably as the year has progressed

However, yesterday Joe's inability to throw accurately hurt us
Both on crossing routes and the deep balls
Several crossing/slants Joe through high and sometimes behind the receiver

There were 2-3 deep balls yesterdaywhere even a semi accurate throw would have resulted in a 40+ yard gain and/or a TD
On a huge overthrow to Squirrel (my afterburner post in the Game thread)
Squirrel was running a deep crossing route (Same route that from the other side of the formation that Squirrel caught the pass later in the game), was covered reasonably well, he broke the route into a deep go route and had his guy beat on the cut but Joe threw way too soon and threw a fastball when throwing it up to let Squirrel run under it was the (far) better option IMO
The speed change by Squirrel on the cut was  impressive

The season started with a WR lineup of Bru, Squirrel and Keyton

We ended yesterday with Webb, Nimrod and Keyton

As an aside, the WRs and TEs had a VERY poor day blocking, worst of the year IMO
Castle was a non factor except for the pass from Joe to Joe where he blocked 2 at the same time to allow Joe to get outside (damn nice block!)

BTW, Bru was on the sideline yesterday and in Heup's ear a couple of times

Milton gets our receivers hurt by his poor throws....in front...behind...high. our receivers have to put their bodies harms way too dang much.

Yeah he missed on several deep throws.   :banghead:

The throws were not bad off, but enough that the WRs had to contort themselves to get them.  Unfortunately. I think we could have scored 2-3 times on deep routes (or set up a score) with just a bit more accuracy.
