Title: Playoffs
Post by: 10EC on November 18, 2024, 12:43:20 EST
So, is the common idea that the SEC will get 4 teams?

So, I guess:

Georgia
Alabama
Texas or Texas A&M
Ole Miss or Tennessee

Am I correct in my thinking?

At this point, I think that we have to get help from someone. We need either Bama, UGA or Ole Miss to take another loss, I think.

Probably a good take.  The thing is though, the SECCG looks likely to be Texas vs. bammer, and Texas may be able to take bammer. I don't think a 3 loss bammer makes it, so that could be our in.

We may want Texas A&M to beat Texas, then lose to bammer.  I think we would be ahead of Texas at that point.

Knowing how things usually go, I expect us to get screwed.  :frown:

It is going to be interesting to see how the SECCG loser is treated by the committee. I don't think they will be punished. If they are, the incentive to make that game is greatly reduced.

The bottom line is that this whole college football industry is about producing dollars. The SECCG produces dollars. The powers that be are not going to want to lose those games.

As per usual.....UT relying on this or that team to lose for us to get to where we'd like to go. We had the ball in our court and couldn't handle it with the worst offensive and defensive game plan I've even seen.... If we get screwed it will be solely on the cluster turd we laid against Ark..  You know, the Ark that teams that mattered destroyed and their coach will most likely get fired.

Yes the Arkansas loss is unforgivable...no excuse for that, though they did play Texass a good game also, so maybe they have it in them a couple times a season.

As for your main point, I get it, but its still better than being Auburn this year, which is where we were pretty much in 2021, except worse.

As I post above, we have at least been on the verge of being in the playoffs twice in 4 years.  We have not sniffed playoffs nor the equivalent of them since 2001. Granted the bar with 12 is less than the 2 in 2001, but when else would we have made the playoffs?

Or if the standard is nearly making the playoffs, then I guess 2001, 2004, and 2007 would apply, and maybe 2006 and 2003.  But in any case, we are at least back to the late Fulmer years.

I do agree that we need  (to use the quote from the Johnny Majors firing) "to take the next step".
