Are we out of NIL money? Is it really that much better to play somewhere else? Did he really think that he wouldn't get playing time?

Really. There are open positions all across the board. Quite frankly, perhaps, even quarterback.

With appropriate NIL money, there shouldn't be any position that a player couldn't find a place.

The good news is the portal is now closed. The bad news is we get to do this all over again in three months. :frown:

It sounds like he submitted the paperwork to UT and they have 48 hrs to submit forward. During that 48hrs they can try to work with him to stay.

Presumably it's a money play, but I can also sell this argument.

"I want to play in the league after two more years in college. Nothing I've seen post-2022 makes me think UT is the place to showcase my talents."

If the above argument is the reason, delayed entry into the portal seems nonsensical.

I said weeks ago that how bad he was used at UT he would probably transfer.....Welp.

Its wide open for him next season.  I think he should stay.  He should have had more touches this year, for sure.  :confused:

Apparently our long national nightmare is over. Matthews is officially in the portal.

I wish him well. However, there's too much smoke around Pope to think additional changes (perhaps simply stylistic) may need to occur.

As weas reported earlier it was the Nico uncertantity to start and then it was more to do with what we VOL fans were questioning about the offense

Apparently, we VOL fans will be happier with the offense next year, as he is staying
