in that game Just horribly. Yes the officiating blew...but my goodness, that was some terrible coaching

I didn't see the game, was forced to audio only.  My area was blacked out from ESPN3 for some reason.

Let me make clear...I AM NOT DEFENDING MARTIN.  But was letting a player go untouched the length of the court coaching?  I don't care how bad the coach is, that's unexcusable.   As for the coaching, a floor foul there might have been a good call, but I have to blame the players for that one.

Did Cuonzo miss the last two FT's?

to answer your question:  YES

Are you saying the coach should have called TO before that play and set the D?  If so, that's a good point.

Again..I am not defending Martin.  I could not watch the game, but clearly if you can't hold on to a 14 point lead at home against an arguably less talented team, then automatically that reflects poorly on the coach.

But I am definitely saying that NO MATTER HOW BAD THE COACHING, the players are not off the hook for letting a single player drive the length of the court and make a layup with 34 seconds left and the game in the balance.

There is absolutely no excuse for that...bad coaching or not.  It doesn't TAKE "bad coaching" to make that basic of an error.

I don't care what they missed or made.  We sink those two, we likely win.

We lost to the 146th RPI team.....at home!!

And it's hard to be out-coached when you can't coach to begin with.

Should not have come down to that. We never adjusted to Jones, and we never tried to set up anything offensively. The last minute was a total cluster.

My point is, even if he sinks them and we win, it was an abysmal coaching performance.

Watched a little of the 1st half.....we looked like the better team. Watched a little of the 2nd half.....A&M looked like the better team. Looked like we took a lot of bad shots late in the game.....that would be typical. Still don't think this team is all that talented. Can't win consistently without it.

I do not understand why the SEC cannot be just as good at BB as FB?

Well, I've theorized before that it's because one school is getting ALL of the really good players right now.  It's undeniable that the SEC was much stronger top to bottom before Cal got to Lexington (and the fact that Pearl was still in the league helped, too).

No doubt the jelly get a lot of players, but there is still enough out there to have some really good teams. After thinking about it, I suppose part of it is because the league does not go out and pay for good coaches. Why would we fire Zo if we are not going to spend the money to get a good coach?

If saban can bring kiffin back in the league then we can bring Pearl back.

Yes, there are many "good" players.  But in basketball, unlike football, there might be only 3-4 "great" players coming out of HS in a given year.  The type of player that can carry an entire team on his back.  And UK is the only SEC school getting any of those guys right now.  5 years ago, UT, UF, maybe even bammer or LSU would've also been in play for those types of players.  Not anymore.

Another, admittedly more reasonable explanation is simple geography.  NY, Philly, DC, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, etc. may not be great hotbeds of football talent anymore, but they remain HUGE basketball markets.  Year in and year out, there is no Southern market that can compare to any of those towns.  And those players generally end up in the Big 10, ACC, or Big East.  Except for the very best of those players, which go to UK.

This is a great example of how coaching comes in to play:

“There was nothing set up,” Antonio Barton said. “I didn’t even know how much time was left.”

That falls squarely on the coaches.  Those situations have to be prepared for.
