My first year at UT we had a couple of guys that lived on my floor in Carrick who liked to walk the sewers. Apparently the sewers that run though campus are big enough to walk through. Obviously these were storm sewers and not the disgusting kind. Anyway, they would walk the sewers and could come up through a manhole in the stadium. I think it was actually on the sidelines or just out of the end zones.

As we discovered a couple years ago, there is little to no security at Neyland during the offseason.  On a Saturday afternoon in August, Emeril and I walked right in, found the elevator, took it straight up to the Club area and snooped around for a while.  There wasn't a soul there to question us.  I'll bet this isn't the first time some students have gotten it on up there.

Several years ago in April me and some family were passing through Knoxville. When went over to the campus and then to Neyland. Got out of the car and went through a open gate. We walked all over like we owned the place. Had my photo taken on the 50 yard line and checkerboards. We were there close to an hour and never saw one other person.

I think I've told this story before, but I got busted inside Neyland as a high school sophomore. One of our math classes (geometry, I think) was on the campus for a special event and some buddies and I decided to "sneak" into Neyland. We walked right in and all was good until we decided to go down to the field to check it out. Some big guy yelled at us and asked us just what in the world we thought we were doing. I thought we were in big trouble.  But it turned out good. When he found out we were just young UT fans with stars in our eyes, he gave us a grand tour of the stadium. He told us a lot about the stadium and about UT football, but never told us his name. It wasn't until I got my Football Time in Tennessee magazine a few weeks later that I realized our tour guide was a defensive line coach named John Chavis.

I always liked him after that, even if I learned to despise his third down defense after he became the DC.

The Swamp is open most days and is a popular place for exercising.  I've used it for training for climbing many times.  The scum hole at fsu is also open for exercising.  Lots of coeds there running the steps

At MTSU the stadium was always open (early 70's). There is a 1/4 mile track around it and seems like there was always activity anytime I went by the place.

You probably know it, but there isn't a track around the football field at Johnny Red Floyd Stadium any longer.  Track and soccer share a stadium now.

Yeah, I should'a said "was" instead of "is". The stadium is a lot nicer now than it used to be but they still have trouble filling up the place.
