Blew a 17 point lead to lose. Been 33 years since the LVs have lost 3 games in a row.

Pat lost 22 SEC games in her final 16 seasons.

Holly has lost 22 SEC games in her last 3 seasons.

And four of Pat's 22 came in her final season- and we all know she wasn't doing any REAL coaching that year. Who stood in for her again? I can't recall... :inughout:

If we had moved on Holly 2-3 years ago like we should have done, we could have hired almost anyone we wanted. Now, I'm not so sure. Our stature in that sport has fallen off a cliff.

Fulmer ain't got the balls to fire her. Why is he the AD again?

Here's the thing: among the hardcore LVs fanbase, i.e. those who buy season tickets every year and financially support the program, I think there's little, if ANY demand for a change. As long as Pat's chosen successor is in charge, they're more than happy to watch her steer the Titanic into an iceberg. Moreover, I think a lot of them would revolt if Fulmer were to make a move.

There is...we'll call it an "element" in that fanbase that sees mens' sports not just as something to be ignored, but outright resents any success for any men's program. I don't know if they see them as a threat to the women or what, but they're out there, and have been for decades. I've seen it firsthand. In early '99, I attended the LV's vs. Louisiana Tech game at TBA. Phil Fulmer was there, sitting in the front row. When he was recognized during a timeout, a large portion of the crowd booed him. Now mind you, this man had just won a National Title a couple weeks earlier. And those people hated him for it. That was the last time I attended a LVs game at TBA. I still pull for them from afar, but I don't want to be a part of that toxic environment.

So yeah, I think even if Fulmer WANTED to make a move on Holly, I don't think he could politically pull it off.

To try and fix football, that's why.

You make very good points and I agree. But I've been told that more of the 'Old Guard' have started to turn on her now.

I know from the outside looking in, it seemed to many like having separate ADs was wasteful and inefficient. But given the dynamic I described, it may have been for the best. If Joan Cronan were to fire Holly right now, I think there would be a lot less pushback than if Fulmer were to do so.

He's the one who started the downward slide. His lazy-assed last year of coaching that is. Then after he was fired he was a divisive figure to the athletic department just because of his butthurt for his firing. What coach after him was he ever truly behind or supportive of?

What? Truthful and realistic.

I guess I am a little too negative on coaches. But I have to be to offset all the folks that kiss their butts whether they are doing a good job or not.  Kinda like those Butch Jones apologists that I riled against from the get-go. These guys are making big money and since Fulmer left name one that has earned it? Hopefully Pruitt is hiring smarter guys than him and he will do well.
