Half of our schedule is against top 13 teams.

It's gonna be so interesting... If stadiums are at 25-50% capacity (if fans are allowed at all), stadiums that are traditionally tough places to play will be largely neutered.

 

Yep. If this season goes the distance, we could end up with a real off-the-wall champ at the end. Expect the unexpected.

The fix is in - UGA and Bama to the playoffs.  Bunch of BS.  I'd still be shocked if there's any football at all tho.

I feel like the season will start, but I'll be shocked if we get halfway through before the plug is pulled.

This confirms that the SEC office will do anything to assure that there is an SEC team in the playoffs. I expect that some AD's are nursing grudges right now.

They haven't failed yet. Is it a bad thing? If you win your games, you will be in. The SEC champ SHOULD be in the playoff every year. That's the homer in me talking. But it still comes down to your team performing on the field. The Vols haven't done that in awhile. What is the downside of having an SEC team in the playoff every year? Aren't we the only conference that hasn't missed the playoff since it started? The playoff should be the four best teams. Hell most years the SEC has arguably two of them.

You're missing the point. If the league is arbitrarily scheduling games to help give their top contenders an easier road to the playoffs, that IS a bad thing. And maybe it's pure coincidence, but it's hard for me to look at the teams that were drawn by Alabama, Georgia and LSU — who just happen to be the league's top 3 contenders — and not think that there's something fishy going on.

I don't even have a huge problem with our draw.  Both are winnable.  But both are lose able.. basically both are real games.  They protected their best teams by giving them gimmies for both.  If they have wanted to be fair they could've broken up the divisions and just opened it up.  But, fair is not what they were going for.

This is just the facts.

Just wait for the scheduled dates of the games when it comes out in the next week or so. It will be the second round of working towards a pre-determined outcome by the SEC office.

like I said,win your games, you will advance. If we ever beat UF, UGa and Bama in the same season we will be right in the playoff mix. Besides, this season/year is a one time only situation I hope.

Everything is a roller coaster.  There's no doubt that the league is protecting certain teams - it's just more blatant in this instance.  Probably won't have to worry about it regardless.  Clay Travis may be put on a suicide watch.

Well, I agree with Vinnie that I don't really have a problem with our schedule...in fact, I think it'll be fun if we actually get to play it. I hate sitting through snoozefests against UT Chattanooga and Arkansas State. But here's the problem with the teams that get the screws put to them and gets a much tougher draw as a result of that arbitrary scheduling: the fans like you who will inevitably be sitting here in November hollering "Fahr him!!" when UT doesn't win its games.

Bingo.  To me, I'd consider 6-4 with this schedule as a record that Pruitt could stand by and say "we're still headed in the right direction".  7-3 would be wonderful and anything better would be party time.  5-5 or worse, meh.

And like you, one of the things that excited me is every weekend would be games I'd be glued to across the league, no snoozers.  Think of the ratings the SEC would run if they push through the negativity and play the season especially if other big conferences pull the plug.

Is Pruitt not getting paid well to beat UF, UGa and Bama? Then he should do it. A tough schedule does no good if you lose three of your games.

It all comes down to money. What will win out. Player safety or revenue.

I agree it's a dead horse. But how many years will it be acceptable to lose to these three teams? Of course we lost 5 out of 7 to Vandy. I guess it is acceptable.

You just answered your own question.....We had talent level that couldn't beat Vandy and you think with the talent we couldn't beat Vandy with should beat Bama, FL and UGA. Pruitt is catching up on the talent front and he couldn't do it in just 2 recruiting classes...His first class was mostly holding onto what the previous staff had committed with a few of his he got....If you don't have your 2 deep close to being equal you aren't going to compete with the big dogs in the SEC that has exactly that.

Right, when we have the talent and depth to go toe to toe with them is when I'll hold Pruitt to that standard.  But I would be disappointed if we didn't somehow get one of the three this year.
