Title: It's a special kind of STUPID to suggest firing a CFB during his 3rd season....
Post by: Coupe De VOL on November 22, 2020, 06:43:39 EST

However, it is Mucho more stupider (sic) to start a QB like Jarrett GuaranteedTurnover and think that is the right thing to do.  That is not just coaching malpractice in the extreme, I am pretty sure it borders on criminal conduct.  I'm not sure exactly which part of the criminal code that is in question, but dammit Jim, I am an engineer, not a lawyer!  Lookit, practically ALL OF US on here KNEW, not assumed, but KNEW JG was a hopeless basket case 2 fizzleING YEARS AGO.  NOT LAST YEAR, BUT 2 fizzleING YEARS AGO.  WHY IS THIS fizzleING #badword# SO BLIND TO THIS FACT?   And McElroy - you fizzleING MOTHER fizzleING BALL LICKER - GO fizzle YOURSELF!  I thought that was pretty darn cute how you got your friends to do that JG ass licking segment AT THE VERY fizzleING moment you  KNEW a JG meltdown was eminent.  You little swarmy MickeyFickey!  If my good friend Harvey Updike had not already passed on, I woulda been sending him over to your place to do some "landscaping" - you can bet your pimply, freckled ass, you fizzleing #badword#.  I can't believe last night I broke my own rule and decided to listen to the amateur play by play commentators..... WTF was I thinking?????

ANyhow, Pruitt should be canned solely for the reason of his inexplicable starting of JG, but we all know the problems here run a lot deeper than that.  A lot of these shortcomings have been well documented in the last few hours and days, but I will add one more critique - what the hell is up with this defense?  they are like the gang that couldn't shoot straight.  Only they are the team that can't hit straight.  Have y'all noticed that they continually whiff when attempting to hit the ball carrier?  Especially when the ball carrier is being restrained by one of their teammates.  They end up hitting each other viciously and barely even lay a lick on the ball carrier.  No wonder we have injury issues on the defense.  We are killing each other out there instead of punishing the ball carrier.  it is fizzleing maddening.   And then of course there are other things like gross overpursuit and total, complete lack of contain by the D-line.

The only reason I give a flying fizzle is because folks are starting to talk about firing the "corch".  I am totally in agreement that sane, practical action would allow a coach at least 4, probably 5 years to prove himself - and I have advocated that.  But if a coach is gonna fight the fires that afflict his team with gasoline, you probably need to throw convention out the window.

I can't fizzleING believe this shizzle.  4 fizzleing coaching hires and 4 fizzleING shots to our fizzleING temple each fizzleING TIME!  WTF?  I know I am in a minority opinion here, but I think Kiffin was a good hire.  It was just extremely bad luck that he left.  he had 2 uni's in his contract that he wanted to be able to escape to, and wouldn't you fizzleing know it - USC opened up...MOTHER fizzleER.  Kiffin had a world class staff.  He coached up what little was there.  I know he brought a thug value with the players he brought in - but welcome to the college football world of today, y'all.  Yeah he pushed the NCAA recruiting rules, but I don't think he would have got in serious trouble.  yeah he was an ass and somewhat immature.  who fizzleing cares?  If Kiffin had stayed, I think it would have worked out.  He would not have stayed long, but I think he would have left us in good shape.  I know he laid an egg at USC which is a little hard to justify, but I think that was a little bit karma, and a little bit of Carroll leaving Kiffin to hold the bag.  Ahh who knows.  But we are fizzleing 0 for 4 on fizzleing coaching hires.  We might as well just try again.  I know we have some damn good recruits - but they are worthless if they aren't being coached up and used in some intelligent scheme lead by someone who knows how to play QB.

I think the defense is fixable with the correct number of assistants, and it wouldn't have been broken if Pruitt had kept Rocker.

As for starting JG, that is criminal.

Your first sentence is the best argument as to why he should be fired.

It's about judgment, and that judgement just isn't there with Poot.  It hasn't been since he arrived.  His history says it's not going to change.

The time to make a change is when you realize a mistake has been made.

Kiffin was/is a good coach, but dang what a staff he had here.

I wouldn't be so up for canning Pruitt now if there wasn't someone available and, if you believe the chatter, willing to come here (Freeze).  I don't want us to fire him without someone already lined up.. because it wouldn't surprise me one bit for us to hire someone even worse.

Great point, we need someone lined up.  We all know how it's worked in the past without someone.

I'd prefer we not hire Freeze. Too much baggage. And it's not just EscortGate- he was running a shady program at OM and everyone knows it.

That said, I just don't care anymore. This team has broken me. Just hire someone who can get the job done, baggage be damned. Freeze? Sure. Urban? Do it. Is Dennis Erikson still available? Can Bashar al-Assad coach football? Fly 'em in for an interview. I just want to win again. :frown:

That's where I'm at. I've reached full-fledged dontgiveadamn status.

Yeah, I couldn't care less about baggage at this point.

I do know that we've gone 0 for our last 4 while shopping in the clearance aisle. You'd think the powers that be would have learned their lesson by now, but I doubt it. If they even let Pruitt go this year (and I doubt they will), I fully expect them to slide that 5 year, $11M offer sheet across the table to some career assistant or Sun Belt coach, and them give him a big raise and extension the first time he goes 6-6. It's UT, and This Is The Way©️.

Again, Tom Allen fits all the criteria we should be looking for, and he's done it cleanly (as far as we know) to boot.

If they follow the Dooley pattern, they will make sure to get a non-P5 coach with a losing record.  That's a key item and they should not neglect it.

For all the autopsies over what has gone wrong with our program, the great majority of the blame can be laid at the feet of Hamilton.  He gave Fulmer a big extension, then fired him 6 months later, completely botched the firing (ugliest firing I have seen in CFB), rolled the dice on Kiffin and lost, but I have to point to the Dooley hiring as the masterstroke. I know it was a week before signing day, and we were desperate, but Dooley had a 17-20 record at LaTech.  His worse season was 4-8.  Guess what year?  2009!  That record gets you fired at UT, and he made it at LaTech!  Just an unbelievably bad hire.  Part of that can be laid on Kiffin leaving us in the lurch, but it was Hamilton calling the shots.

Pruitt lost to a first year Arky coach with 18 walk-ons in key positions. I think our talent is over-rated a lot too. Combine that with poor coaching, and this is what you get. Why are so many of you surprised?

I don't think our talent is overrated, it's just not being coached and developed.  Our head coach has hired assistants who are alleged to be recruiters first and developers of talent somewhere down the line of assets.  Got to have a mix.

And those alleged recruiters, by the way, haven't been all that great at recruiting, either.

Yeah and so did a lot of other teams. But why single out Arkansas? The loss to Kentucky is more embarrassing.
