Title: For Milton to win the job next year
Post by: Black Diamond Vol on December 31, 2022, 03:30:28 EST
Other than putting more touch on his passes (which looked better last night), he’s going to need to improve his pocket presence. He seems to hang in there too long and seems reluctant to pull it down and take off when it’s all collapsing around him. He took at least two sacks last night where he could’ve easily run it for a first down.

I really don’t think they could afford to get him hurt.  Maybe no green light?

I thought the deep ball to Ramel was the best pass Milton has thrown as a Vol.  Touch with air, and you could almost see him conciously dialing it back.  I agree he needs to work on pocket presence, his tendency under pressure is to bail out the back rather than slide up or take it upfield.

I think that game last night was his best throwing the ball with touch.  there is still room for improvement, however.  I thought he was really tight starting out and just took way too much time in the pocket.  Looks like he kind of mentally froze at times.  I remember him having much better pocket presence back in '21.  He just seemed a little up tight, for whatever reason.  The coaches need to work with him and focus on relaxation techniques.  He is definitely a bit of a head case and the staff needs to help him with that.  That can be managed.  It's a lot like a golf swing - you have to get all these components to marry together in harmony.  You can focus on one thing and get it down, while some other thing is neglected and screws up the works.  With good coaching, or maybe great coaching, he could literally be the best ever.  He just needs to get it all together and keep it all together.   He will definitely be high maintenance.  That is not necessarily a bad thing.  I think it was Parcells who would liken some players to million dollar sports cars.  He would say they are fine tuned machines and needed to be treated differently than your typical auto.

No. You pat him on the back but you don't shut out the guys who you couldn't have played anyway. Glad he played well... now do it consistently.
