-11, wind chills -25, foot of snow pack, right on the temp edge of the system tonight where we could either get amazing amounts of snow, amazing amounts of rain, or the dreaded mix with freezing rain. Most honest I have ever seen weathermen less than 12 hours out, they are basically saying "We don't know", check with us later.
Anchorage? Yikes, that's cold. BG

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Fan the flames of expectations...........

The old adage is a player improves the most between their freshman and sophomore year. With a a large and talented freshman group on hand, the expectation they will really notch it up to another level is realistic.
FWIW, our board already discussed this and most concur and expect it. Another talented freshman class just adds to the likelihood of greater things. Your defensive line could really be a big factor. QB consistency will be key, but the talent is there.

Yeah, I never really cared for him on SNL. The only times I found him funny was when he'd break character to laugh at Will Ferrell. But he's definitely found his niche on TTS.
I also didn't care for him on SNL; just never thought he was very funny. I too have completely turned around and now think his talent is just great. Both the Neil Young and Morrison impersonations are killer, and he really has improved the show. Great hire for The Tonight Show. Edited to say I'm like '73 below and a Young and CSNY fan. Yes, he's a head case, but talented and I very much like his and CSNY's music. When he discusses issues, well, that's another story. BG

Does this class change our expectations a lot for the upcoming season. Is an East title asking too much? I think we will at least compete for it.
At the least. BG

Someone also linked that to our board. It he's as good as what he's been told at camps it just doesn't make any sense to me. I understand possibly being overlooked in New Mexico, but he's visited many camps where decision makers are present and still no offers. I don't get it.

Good to have have that kind if competition at the QB position.
Got to say I'm especially impressed by the recruiting at the defensive line position. Got to win in the trenches, and it definately looks like the Vols will be tough on defense for the next several years.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: This is why the TV people love SEC football.

Recently, I read how the CBS SEC games completely dominated the competitors. Note that Notre Dame with a national following is only 8th in the country, and teams like USC are much further down than that.
The recent Alabama-Auburn game was the most highly rated regular season game in ESPN history, and blew the old record away by more than 3 million viewers. Also, I read a national article a couple of years ago how the conference is now perfoming much stronger in TV markets such as Chicago, and cutting into viewership of both Big-10 and Notre Dame games.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We signed Kamara, ex Bama RB. What is the story with him? Will he contribute
|
on: December 18, 2014, 05:38:19 EST

Hurd ran into brick walls all season....he's lucky to make it 12 games. The kid is tough and if he had run behind a UGA, Bama type OL he would have been a 1,000 plus yard rusher.
I've seen several films on Kamara and he's the real deal. Some of his problems at Bama were they wanted to move him to defense.
I do not believe that is accurate, but if so I'm not aware of it. He was injured prior to his freshman season, and while he healed in short time he was still redshirted along with fellow freshman running back Tyren Jones. Of the then freshman backs, only Derrick Henry and Altee Tenpenny played and both were buried down the depth chart. Kamara was once suspended for behavioral reasons, and another time for "undisclosed" reasons, but by all accounts is an extremely talented player. It was common knowledge he had expressed dissatisfaction to others with lack of playing time, and reportedly had a rocky relationship with running backs coach Burton Burns. If his attitude is positive, UT should have a very effective back and one who can especially attack the perimeter with both his running and pass catching skills. BG

IMO, the bump is deserved as progress on the field has been demonstrated, but that's just part of the reason for the increase. Hart and the administration at UT are fully aware the cupboard was bare when Jones arrived. He's done exceptionally well in getting the talent upgraded, and has unified the fan based once again. They know he's done as well as could be expected, and almost certainly exceeded expectations in recruiting.

This is why I enjoy this board and the posters here. I like it when regardless of one being Orange or Crimson, one can put that aside and be objective. I admire that. My compliments to those who did this.

Great to see the AD and CSU not buckle to the pressure. Sexton is the best at what he does, to the chagrin of universities, but good to see the little guy not get fleeced. BG

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Muschamp to Auburn. Any of these rumblings true? He would pair up with that
|
on: December 04, 2014, 03:23:33 EST

Bama does not want them to hire Muschamp as DC. He's a good DC, and will get a lot more out of the very good Defensive talent they have been recruiting than Ellis Johnson did.
Not very concerned. As long as Bama takes care of their own business, I and others have no reason to be. As long as Auburn's coach is not named Nick Saban the Tide is in good shape. While they're exceptions, defenses at schools that run that fast a hurry-up offense as Malzahn's often seem to have a tough time. Besides, Bama recruited exceptionally well last year, and for the next, at the OL position where they had fallen off since 2012 and have recruited well at the offense skill positions. While Muschamp is a very good defensive coach, and has personally learned from two of the best in Bill Oliver and Nick Saban, and I can think of other coordinators I would rather see there, his work would be cut out for him at Auburn but will certainly help them. That sounds like a terrific deal too! As one who paid back a chunk in student loans, I'd recommend a route that includes as much paid-for stuff as possible. [/quote Same here. That would be nice. BG

offense of Auburn's and with him as DC, could have success there. But he was there before and left on not the best terms with the school.
The Auburn writer on their 247 site says Auburn does want him, and is told Muschamp would be receptive. I don't if that's true but that's his opinion. Yes, I heard some Auburn fans say there is ill feelings between Muschamp and a big AU booster, but also don't know if that's valid. BG

I'm not sure there's a better coached team in the conference than Mizzou. Pinkel has done much more with much less than the rest of the East these last two years.
But I think Alabama rolls.
Completely agree on Pinkel. That man can coach. BG
