Rumors are they will also offer the former Georgia player the title of Head Coach in Waiting and some don't expect Richt to coach more than two more seasons.
Coaches in waiting haven't exactly been good things to be - see Muschamp at Texas and PH when he was at Maryland, for example.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The Patriots - why the hate?

This is a huge game for me and my son. His wife's family are all Patriot fans - several of them have had season tickets for decades and Gillette Stadium is just about 10 minutes from my son's in-laws house. They obviously love Tom Brady and despise Peyton Manning. We need a win, especially if this is to be Manning's last game against Brady, which is a really good possibility.
Why do I hate the Patriots? Because they are the Patriots. Does anybody really need another reason?

Big difference. Dylan Wiesman and A.J. Branisel did not commit to Tennessee until weeks after Jones was hired, and in the case of Wiesman he had actually been decommitted from Cincy for weeks before making the commitment to UT. Also, both Wiesman and Branisel had standing offers from Tennessee that Dooley & staff had offered them. Branisel went on record to say that he had been wavering on his commitment to UC even before Jones left.
Do I like it? Not necessarily, but there's a quantum difference between that and two commitments flipping from one school to another within 24 hours of the head coach changing schools. It doesn't take much imagination to believe that Franklin spoke to those guys about going to Penn State while he was still being paid by Vandy. Then when you consider that we're in an NCAA-imposed dead period that isn't lifted until Jan. 15 and you really have to question whether Franklin committed a violation. Actually, you don't have to question it at all. It's pretty damned obvious that he did.
Don't buy that at all. Verbals are just that - verbals. There's nothing binding until the first Wednesday of February. Is it shady? Yeah, but it's happened with UT as assistants have been hired, too. That finger pointing is hypocritical and misguided, in my opinion. Every school has been guilty of it at one time or another. The dead period really isn't a dead period. That's a no in person contact period, but if a recruit initiates the contact it is allowed. And with social media, there is basically no dead period period any longer.

This is a great example of how coaching comes in to play:
“There was nothing set up,” Antonio Barton said. “I didn’t even know how much time was left.”
That falls squarely on the coaches. Those situations have to be prepared for.

We hired one of their coaches in the offseason, if they are too stupid to change the calls then they deserve it. :-)
Yep. One of the reasons that teams have 3 guys giving signals with only one of them being live. Got to change signals up from series to series, and sometimes in the middle of a series. With most teams going to hand signals now it's really not hard to figure them out, if you can figure out which signal giver is live.

True, Herb. But for me this tells me it wasn't Auburn's scheme or the fact they outplayed FSU. They just knew what was coming.
Understand, but you still have to make a defensive play. The offense is still blocking and the ball carriers are trying to run over or around the defense. Just because a defense has a good idea what might be coming doesn't mean they can always stop it. My point is that it's not cheating to steal signals. Every single team out there tries to do it.

Yes. Definitely a step up. In 99% of the cases if one can go from a position coach at a BCS league school to a coordinator at a BCS school it is a step up.
Not only would Sanders get a huge boost in pay, but he'll also be much closer to his Morristown, TN, home. He was a candidate for the head coaching job at ETSU, but they went with Carl Torbush instead. A big part of the pull for that job with Sanders was Johnson City's proximity to Morristown.

Stealing signals isn't cheating, unless you do it like Billicheck did it with illegally taping opposition practices.
You don't think Tennessee coaches try to steal our opponents signals watching tape and on game days? I promise you we've got grad assistants who have "signal" duties on game day.
It happens at every level of football. If a team isn't smart enough to change and disguise signals then they deserve to have them stolen.
