efforts but we have running backs to run the ball we need a QB who can stretch the field and present a respect for the passing game for opponents. If we can generate an effective passing game it will improve an already good running game as well, not to mention more sustained drives which also allows the defense to play less fatigued. We desperately need a passing game.     

he represents the university well and he's a likable guy....but after this week I have serious doubts about his coaching ability. It appears to me that he learned absolutely nothing from OU, everyone knew UF would watch that game and dare Dobbs to throw and yet he did nothing to implement passes that could help Dobbs be productive and relieve pressure on the run game. Throw in the total clock/game management at the end I really wonder if he has the understanding and know-how to coach at this level.     

lack is a passing game and declaring it a "must win" isn't going to transform Dobbs into a passer and until we get one we will see more of the OU and UF defensive schemes and unfortunately probably much more disappointment. Being one dimensional makes it too easy on the opponents D and much too difficult for our O. Hurd was working like he did last year for 3 measly yards far too often because the opponent doesn't have to respect the passing threat.

Agree...next year will be different, but from mid-2013 I have felt this is a four year project, period, dot.  It still is.  And again, for the thousandth time, if Dooley had not left the cupboard so bare on both recruiting AND development, I would expect more this year.  Butch gets an extra year due to the size of the hole we were in.  Two good recruiting classes is a great start but historically improvements come in the third year of good recruiting.

Agree with must win.  Biggest game in Jones' Tennessee career by far (based on fan expectations).  He has to win this game.

if we lose we should fire Butch and once again initiate a coaching search???      Realistically we are about 50/50 IMO to win or lose, we are pretty evenly matched. IMO many need to realize that Dobbs is not a championship caliber QB and we lack championship level depth and most positions (especially OL)....we are vastly improved from 3 yrs ago, but we aren't where the type of expectations many have are realistic. I will surely be rooting for the Big Orange and will be sorely disappointed should we lose, but the worst thing we could do is begin calling for Butch's head and derail what he has begun only to potentially end up with another Kiffin or Dooley.                 

  He locks in on 1 receiver and never seems to check off to anyone else and that telegraphs it to the db's. Several of his throws should have been picked off and we've just been lucky they haven't been.

I think he makes a pre-snap determination where he's going and that's the WR he locks in on....he's just not a true passing QB. I think when he's going to pass they need to stop with all of the fakes to the WR around and the RB in order to give him an extra second or two to get rid of the ball...against OU by the time he completed his fakes the rush was all over him. Also, they have to hit the TE down the seam and some crossing routes/slants to get those LBs out of constant blitz mode like OU did.   

 

for this game but in order to be successful for the rest of the schedule, a legit passing game that forces the D to cover the entire field. I think it will be a tough game if we can't effectively pass the ball.               

willing to put them in even in the first half instead of, as so often happens, waiting until the 4th quarter and then only running the ball....valuable experience opportunity there.     

he spoke to recruits that when he looked them in the eye that they could believe him when he told them he was going to be there for their 4 yrs as their coach....I couldn't help but think there's got to be 2-3 classes at some point for which this will not be true. I agree, I can't help but think he steps down very soon.     

prevent pressure on Dobbs once OU decided to come at him hard nearly every play, BUT Butch's failure to adjust to OU's adjustments to our offense is inexcusable IMO. I'm not saying fire him by any means, but I don' t know how you can watch them begin to have success and do nothing to counter their adjustments?    I think a lot of folks are forgetting that we're really just getting the ship turned and we are still very thin in experience and depth...IMO we're at least 1, probably 2, years away from being where we want to be and that's on Dooley but Butch needs to grow as a coach too.    

with play calling and offensive design....it appears to me that all of the misdirection etc. with players moving across the formation is just smoke and mirrors, the ball almost always ends up in the same 2-3 places. We didn't exploit the space behind the LBs at all, it seemed the LBs were blitzing tons, or playing right on the line against the run. The D was getting pressure on Dobbs while he was waiting to execute the fake to the WR or RB and I thought if would have ran some straight play action we could have hit the TE with a quick pass down the seem or a shallow slant and got those LBs out of there or moved the ball more consistently. It was apparent to me that OU figured out the offense quickly after giving up the 17 and we didn't threaten after that and made no adjustments that I could tell.                           

before I saw our D in action....I really thought they'd be the strength of the team, I hope they were just looking ahead to this game.               

suck in the SEC....not that that upsets me, I relish seeing "The Ole Ball Coach" have to eat crow for an entree and humble pie for desert.               

part not showing Stoops what the actual starting lineup may look like. I expect to see our D to dominate BG and probably a big lean on the run game with just enough passing to get some good reps in....but hey, what do I know, I'm always much better on Monday mornings.                     

that we might blow them out and come into OK thinking that the same effort would be good enough....I'm not as concerned after watching some practices and listening to players/coaches, I think Butch will have 'em ready. I saw that Jumper is getting the start at MLB....GOOD FOR HIM, way to work for it walk-on!!!

I don't know how quickly PW will be legitimately ready to contribute (is he 100% from his injury yet?) but I sincerely doubt a redshirt is in the cards for him. If he lives up to his potential, he isn't going to be here four years anyway.

Very true....my TI used to say "smoke 'em if you got 'em" and in todays game you better play 'em while you got 'em.

my yes reply largely on my feeling that our D will shock OK. It seems to me that we have some really special players on that side of the ball....on the O too, but many more on the D side and it's normal to see quicker contributions from players on that side of the ball.
