26  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Tee coming home? on: November 28, 2017, 12:24:23 EST
Tee was a tremendous QB at UT, but I really question the wisdom of hiring a guy whose only other head coaching feelers at this point are coming from Georgia Southern.

Love to see him back in Knoxville, but bringing him back as the head coach would be a real reach.

Sadly, we have put ourselves in a position of really reaching.
27  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Um... on: November 23, 2017, 11:34:50 EST
Helluva talent, but he wouldn’t be the first one to waste it. Lotta parallels with James Banks.
28  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Anyone here had shingles. Is it woth getting the vaccine. I know a few on: November 09, 2017, 03:54:45 EST
I'm baffled as to why you would even question getting the vaccine, but it's your choice.
29  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: If we lose to Missouri on Saturday on: November 08, 2017, 03:35:29 EST
i agree.  But at least we were within a game of going to the SECC two years ago and were highly favored last year.  We never sniffed anything of the sort under Dooley, his best SEC record was 3-5.

Granted, Butch's best SEC record was 5-3 and that's still not great, and there is still quite a ways to go.

This year is particularly vexing because we should have won at least one of Kentucky, USC, Florida.

You speak of the East being down. Georgia is not down in any sense, and UK and Junior are much better than they used to be.

But I agree that we should have some SEC wins at this point in the season.  No question.

We suck.  I'm surprised there's anything to debate.

Saben has no interest in Butch's early departure.
31  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: It's official. on: October 14, 2017, 10:20:03 EDT
I think Butch is the only reason Muschamp is still coaching.
32  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: More from the rumor mill. aTm to offer Franklin if Sumlin gets fired. on: October 12, 2017, 10:59:32 EDT
I'm guessing he's viewed as a savior in State College, for good reason.  Why give that up for a "show me what you can do" do-or-die situation in the SEC?  Seeing as how it's now pretty clear that he was the brains behind Shoop's apparent defensive coaching prowess, I'd take him in a heartbeat, but don't expect he'd have any interest.
33  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: More brilliance from Butch Jones. Well Duh! on: October 11, 2017, 10:11:06 EDT
"Gump, you're brilliant! I wish I had 30 of you in this platoon!!"
34  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Rumor is QD leaving the program* on: October 11, 2017, 12:07:29 EDT
He WAS at practice today, working mostly with the 2's

Probably just a gut, frustrated reaction.  IMO, with the turnovers he's produced he should be working with the 2's.
35  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Rumor is QD leaving the program* on: October 10, 2017, 11:13:06 EDT
The worse the play-calling, the more valuable a mobile quarterback.  Once he leaves the pocket, it doesn't matter what was called.  Probably why the Dobbs offense was so successful.
36  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Game Thread: UGA on: September 30, 2017, 11:16:26 EDT
So, is Butch gonna come out for the second half?
37  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: With that entertaining press conference today by Butch, I have NO idea what UT on: September 25, 2017, 11:21:45 EDT
team will show up on Sat.

Good bet it won't be anything resembling the '98 version...
38  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Guarantano on: September 23, 2017, 08:30:51 EDT
He played in the 2nd game

Yea, I meant will he ever play again.
39  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Guarantano on: September 23, 2017, 08:21:04 EDT
Will he see the field? If not, will he ever (in a TN uniform)?
40  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: UMass truly wretched on: September 20, 2017, 05:29:13 EDT
I wouldn't have agreed with you until this past weekend. I'm not sure Guarantano is the guy but I will be ticked if he doesn't get meaningful snaps this week.

First and goal at the one foot line, and he throws what could easily have been a pick-6.  Certainly wasn't his only mistake, but that's catastrophic enough to warrant giving Guarantano a serious look.  You just don't do that.  Terrible play call, but the execution is wide open TD or a wasted down throwaway.  Nothing in-between.
41  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I have seen a lot of calls to replace Butch on: September 18, 2017, 10:54:48 EDT
Can't afford to take baby steps in a big boy league.  Just won't get you any closer to the top.

It was a joke, Herb - let's not take the Keystone Vols too seriously.
42  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I have seen a lot of calls to replace Butch on: September 18, 2017, 07:59:17 EDT
Hey, we had the defense lined up on the LOS this time.  Baby steps.
43  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So... I guess we'll probably stay with QD? on: September 17, 2017, 08:21:14 EDT
3 picks. The first and goal fade could easily have been a 99 yd pick 6. Decision making is quite poor. Open up the QB battle. A mobile qb does things for you in games that you can't see in practice.
44  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I don't fizzleing believe it on: September 17, 2017, 01:11:17 EDT
The irony is that even with pass interference they wouldn't be in FG range...
45  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Gator offensive coaches on: September 14, 2017, 08:14:50 EDT
The Gators DO suck on offense. No doubt about it. It was a hapless offense last year and is even moreso this year.

OTOH, there's no doubt that Michigan's D is extremely well-coached — much moreso than ours, certainly. I'm not convinced that we CAN hold their offense in check, but if they run wild on us, I still hold to what I said earlier: Shoop should be left on the tarmac.

If we line up a yard off the ball on D, he should be left on the tarmac.
46  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Too bad the dawgies won on: September 13, 2017, 12:16:40 EDT
Yes the topic shifted.  Still not convinced USC e is the new "Urban coached Florida".  Instead I predict more of "Muschamp coached Florida", because Mizzou literally has one of the worst defenses in the NCAA. Let them show some offense against a team that didn't surrender 43 on it's home field to an FCS school, and THEN I will worry that USC e is now "fun and gun north" (to reference another old Florida and actually USC e coach.  Whose offense at USC e was not nearly like his old one).

Gee, you think there's any middle ground between "definitely delusional" about winning the SECe and "the new 'Urban coached Florida'"?  I just don't see their chances as being that much lower than ours, nor do I see the point in saying their delusional.
47  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Too bad the dawgies won on: September 12, 2017, 04:05:54 EDT
Well they haven't beaten us yet....

If you are referring to their narrow win  over our injury-riddled team in a game where our starting RB refused to play, then I'll point out that was last season when they had a losing record and in spite of beating us were considered a bad team.

The topic in this thread is "does their recent win over Mizzou mean anything for their chances this year".  I say not just no, but hell no.

Actually, the topic is (was) "Too bad the dawgies won".  It's at the top of the thread.  The win over Mizzou was an unrelated shift that falsely assumed that was the reason for Cock fans' optimism.  A slightly deeper inspection reveals their optimism to be based on having a promising young quarterback to complement a defensive-minded coach.  Given the performance of our defense, and the history of our coach, I'd give them as much reason for optimism as we have.
48  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Too bad the dawgies won on: September 11, 2017, 09:10:18 EDT
They beat someone good, I may change my mind, but in the meantime....

Sounds like our Vols don't qualify...
49  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hmm. Ole Miss is at Cal this week... on: September 11, 2017, 04:06:15 EDT
I see some potential for violence there.  Because you KNOW some #badword# is going to take a CSA flag to Berkeley, and you KNOW some antifa #badword# is going to physically attack them.

I'm not sure Berkeley antifa are aware that they have a football team.
50  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Too bad the dawgies won on: September 11, 2017, 04:04:48 EDT
The only fans that would be delusional would be Vandy, KY or Missouri.  Any of the remaining have a legitimate shot at being dog-whupped by Alabama in Atlanta.
