I'll go for World Cup soccer. The games themselves may be way too tedious, but I love seeing the national pride and celebration, particularly when a small country pulls an upset. Just seems much more genuine than cheering for a billionaire-owned team that wheels and deals for multi-millionaire athletes. I'll add the Olympics for the same reason.

You've hiked some nasty/obscure stuff RockyMtn. How's Ekaneetlee? I think I heard there were a bunch of blow-downs on it years ago.
Ekaneetlee is a special place. A little virgin forest through the cove, and lots of dripping, hanging gardens in the upper portion. There are a few yellow Lady's Slippers at the gap, and if you continue down the Eagle Creek side, there's a profusion of them. Very rare that far south - the pink Lady's Slippers are much more common. I haven't hiked it in years (do more in Colorado/Wyoming these days) so I can't speak to the blowdowns.

We are in the midst of a 20-week-long hiking challenge that challenges participants to hike a new trail each week. The idea is to introduce noobs to hiking, which promotes not only physical fitness but also sells them on the tourism potential of our region. We start with easy trails and work our way up to difficult trails.
Anyway, we introduced a lot of locals to Honey Creek for the first time. It blows my mind that people have lived here all their life and have never experienced it. It's a completely different world when you drop down into that canyon. I love it.
Been too long since I've done much hiking in TN, but here's a few that still bring a smile to me: (Cumberlands) -Savage Gulf - li'l patch of virgin forest down in a canyon like Honey Creek. -Clear Creek - just walk down from Lily Bridge toward the Obed - swimmin holes to die for. -Frozen Head - Chimney Top trail and around the ridge to make it a loop. (Smokies) -20 Mile Creek - esp in the fall - up to Parsons Bald, over to Gregory's and back down to make it a loop. -Ekaneetlee manway - off the Gregory Ridge Trail, can loop to Gregory's Bald or go down the other side to Eagle Creek. -Madron's Bald through Allbright Grove -Porter's Flat - continue on up the manway to Charlie's Bunion. - Shining Rock - campfire rings of white quartz

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Ticket buying question
|
on: May 09, 2017, 04:08:02 EDT
|
I have a good cajun friend (accident of birth) wants to get together for the LSU game this fall. So, I go online and find 9 tickets at $200 a pop on VividSeats.com. I buy them, they congratulate me and say the tickets will ship on 11/11/17. Seems kinda last minute to me, so I email and question it. They say there's nothing they can do, the seller won't get the tickets from the venue until then. But, rest assured - they cover it with a 100% money-back guarantee. I don't want my money back, I want my tickets. Anyone have any experience with VividSeats? It sounds like a great way to sell tickets, then try to sell them at a higher price as the game gets closer. I've emailed and said "send me the tickets, or refund my money" and am waiting for a reply. Thoughts/experiences?

Remember that Pac 10 writer last year whining about Dobbs getting so much attention for his academics, saying "at Stanford, he's just another guy"? Well, at Tennessee, McCaffery might have been the 3rd brightest guy in our backfield- if that. Let's be fair - he DEFINITELY would have made 3rd. Jalen Hurd's score is not posted, but...

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Bama's new OC

Post away. My response will be simple and direct. I didn't factor in that bammer would be no. 1 in recruiting for 6 years running. No other team in history has even come close. So yeah, I was wrong about that. But let Saban recruit like any other SEC power and my prediction would have been spot on. Which also easily explains why I don't GAS. I don't credit bammer with anything but being the best recruiting cheats. Anyone not in full blown denial can easily see that's what's going on. Roughly half the 2-3 dozen folks that are bammer fans I have discussed this with face to face actually say that to me. And they don't care either, they are happy to admit it, all that matters to them is winning. But I actually am getting more like TRO in general. This shizzle just doesn't seem to matter like it used to, and I think that's a good thing. I sure don't want to be like those idiot Raider fans that beat a guy to death, or the bammer fan that shot her sister, or the dipshizzle that poisoned the trees (one Raider example and two bammer examples!) See what I mean? Bat. shizzle. Crazy ) Sooo...if they didn't recruit so well, they wouldn't be near as successful on the field..."Gump! You're BRILLIANT!! I will I had 20 more of you in this platoon!"

The Falcons choked it away when they were up 16 and had third and one - and tried to throw it and had the sack/fumble. Just run the football, get a damned yard right there, and take 3 more minutes off the clock. Worse case, you get stuffed and punt and the Patriots have to go 80 yards.
From that point on it was all Patriots. That was the game right there. Just a dumb ass decision.
Not only a pass, but a double move deep ball, giving the rush time to get there. I"m okay with a 2-yder to Julio Jones, but geez....

On a side note.........Derek Trucks (Butch's Nephew) and his wife Susan Tedeschi have the best touring band in the business. I have seen them 3 times in the past 18 months. I have seen a lot of bands and that's the best live performance I have seen in years. Go see Tedeschi/Trucks Band if you get the chance. Look kids! Real artists with real instruments! Watch them play!
Saw TTB at Red Rocks last summer - phenomenal! Derek can conjure up Duane Allman, Stevie Ray, BB King & Hendrix, in addition to his own amazing style. Susan ain't too shabby either!

Hearing a lot of discussion from today, I think the "it's done and Fulmer is the guy" talk is complete bull shizzle. Just doesn't make much sense.
Well, we're just gonna have to wait till we can watch the film on that...

Honestly, I have no confidence in us beating a quality opponent after watching our defense the last 3 games.
Let's see...Vandy hangs 45 on us...yea, I've got no confidence. Take the over.
