Thanks Bill, and OJ as well. Momma just went to see my some Reid during his family day and he's doing well. Amazing actually. I can't put to words just how proud I am of him.
I can't wait for him to graduate AIT and then move onto Airborne school. A very good friend of mine will pin his wings on him, I'm down about having to miss that, but a lot of the squad leaders that I have worked with in the past will be there as well because they know I will miss it, and that is an honor that makes my eyes water. I've been blessed during my years in the Army

Didn't you just say you were done w/deployment a few weeks ago?
WTH?
I did, but things changed. I will keep it short to avoid the need to move this thread to politival. Hopefully I will still be on orders to go to Ft Jackson when I get back this time, because Im pretty much over this new army and Im looking forward to retirement.

My take is: Violence isn't the answer to discipline kids. In fact, in general, violence isn't the answer.
Peterson seems to have a problem - he's a 6'1 230 lb grown man beating a 4 year old with a switch. What he did is abuse. I don't take issue with a spanking on the butt, but I never do or did it to my kids because I feel there are much better methods. It seems to have worked for us so far.
you sure are opinionated. I've beaten the crap out of my kids a time or two, and I would say they have turned out to be some of the best men to walk the earth. But what do I know.....

I had received orders to go to Fort Jackson (Columbia, SC) and get a job that didn't require me to deploy and work somewhat normal hours. My brigade is deploying again in a few months, so they tried to get my orders deleted and take me with them. Well, after a huge tug of war game between the big army and my Brigade, big army won and I'm moving on the "Relaxin Jackson"! After multiple deployments to 4 different wars, my fighting days are over!

.........the fact that the scenery appeared more like the Rockies than the Hindu Kush..... It looked to me like it was filmed around FT Carson, but even so, the terrain is incredible similar to eastern Afghanistan. There were a couple of shots that made me believe that is WAS filmed in Afghanistan. The dense forest areas of the Dewegal and Korengal valleys look remarkable similar it's unbelievable what they went through and the courage of Gulab in the face of the real prospect of his entire village being annihilated. the Poshtunwali Code is incredible. If you are accepted as their guest, the will give to you what ever they have and will protect you with their life. We know nothing of hospitality in comparison.

My oldest just joined the Army today! He's going to the Fort Benning School for Boys and becoming an Infantryman this summer, then on to Airborne school. I'm pretty positive that he will go to Fort Bragg afterwards. I'm really proud of him, he had to fight through a lot of issues to get to this point, but he was determined to get it done.

what BDV said, times a million.
Who cares about this dork? I'm not losing any sleep over him, not worth my time. I love that Saban hired him, he is starting to look like he's in a desperate spot if you ask me. The pressure to maintain the façade of greatness he's had sure seems to be clouding his judgment

great read. I had a similar experience back in '08. Our Company was flying commercial air from Atlanta to Ft. Dix, and as we boarded the plane in Atlanta, there was a Sergeant First Class in Class A uniform with a small box, probably 12" x 12" x 12" that got on the plane as well. We knew what the box was, but the others on the plane wasn't 'in the know'.
As soon as we took off, I moved up the SFC's seat and talked to him and the Soldier he was escorting. He told me the all about PFC Cortez, his family and his service. He had died in Iraq due to an IED and all that was recovered fit in the box he was carrying.
Just before the final approach, the pilot announced that there was a fallen Soldier on board and asked that everyone remained seated until the SFC and the PFC had reached the terminal. It was a very moving and somber experience.

I agree, it's time for you to give it a rest. Thanks for doing so.
