I heard an interesting conversation on the radio the other day about some.....disturbing things.  It was discussed here on local radio that it is sort of "known" that there are gay womens programs and straight programs.  The talk on the radio was that this had alot to do with Pat not continuing the rivalry with Uconn.  That Uconn did not represent the same type of family values that UT does.  I know there are a fair number of gay women in basketball (not that there is anything wrong with that)...I never thought there would be "gay" and "straight" programs though.  I guess if you're gay, you might want to be at a program with others like yourself.  I am sure that no program is completely one way or the other and not sure how true it all is.

379  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Anyone noticed a big shift in some media members over the last couple of years?. on: June 11, 2012, 04:58:41 EDT
Something I noticed about 2 years ago and just wondered if anyone else noticed.  Back when Fulmer was here...there were certain media guys who were always negative and sort of acted like they had it in for the Vols. David Climer, Gilbert in Chattanooga, John Adams....were always looking at the negative story or never had much positive to say.  Hyams, Mike Strange, Chris Lowe, and some others ...all seemed to be on the "inside", usually had reliable scoops, and were more positive about the program than negative.  After Fulmer was fired, it seems to me things reversed dramatically.  David Climer became the voice or reason and hope about the program, Gilbert and Adams were writing positive stuff.  Hyams on the other hand seemed to turn sour...seems wrong most of the time with his predictions...totally different than he was when he was an insider.  Chris Lowe seems very negative about the program but doesn't seem to be connected very well anymore.  Hubbs is the only one I can see who seems to have been consistent....maybe not right all the time but seems like he hasn't really changed.  The biggest two whom I have noticed switching are Hyams and Climer. Anybody else noticed the change?  I may just be crazy but that is beside the point.

Along with health on the offense, I think it is paramount for our most talented overall unit (the O-line) to play up to their potential.  If they just do what they are capable of, our running game will be solid and Bray will have time.

I am surprised to see Dave Hart respond so quickly and openly.  Everyone usually lawyers-up and has no comment.   Sounded like she accused him of firing Pat Summit....then I read John Adams article and it sounds like he didn't.   Not sure what is going on with all this......Looks bad from both sides.

388  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Man arrested for drunk driving with zebra, parrot in truck.... on: May 23, 2012, 07:38:09 EDT

Man arrested for drunk driving with zebra, parrot in truck.

Dubuque Police Dept. via KWWL

Jerald Reiter

An Iowa man arrested for drunk driving after he left a bar appears to have his "kids" to blame -- a baby zebra and parrot that were with him and his girlfriend.

Jerald Reiter, 55, was charged with operating while under the influence and spent the night in jail before being released Monday.

He told KCRG.com that he suspects the only reason police were at the bar in Dubuque was that someone among the crowd taking pictures of the zebra and parrot contacted authorities.

"He was standing outside of his vehicle," Reiter's girlfriend, Vickey Teeters, told KCRG.com. "He was getting ready to switch drivers."

"These are our kids," Teeters added, in explaining why the animals were with them.

The couple said they often take the animals with them, and had planned to bring them into the bar but were told they could not enter because food was being served that night.

Reiter, from nearby Cascade, was arrested after he, Teeters, the zebra and the parrot returned to his truck.

Police said Reiter had actually started driving away from the bar's parking lot, but he insists he had not yet moved the vehicle. Under Iowa law, he can be charged with drunkenness for simply being behind the wheel, KCRG.com reported.

You just cant make this sort of thing up

390  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Preds question....should we leave the lineup the same tonite????..... on: May 04, 2012, 05:07:28 EDT
or should we bring back Rads and Andre?  At first I thought that they should leave the lineup alone.....but after listening to some radio and thinking about it...Rads is our leading scorer in the playoffs, and andre is the leading goal scorer.  They are not good on defense but they werent' brought in to be defensive, they were brought in to add offense and they have done that well (until Sunday nite).  Sort of undecided but to win a Stanly cup....I am convinced that we will need their offensive prowess.
391  General Boards / Recipe Board / Re: Cream of Squirrel soup... on: April 19, 2012, 04:50:51 EDT
OK...I really do make cream of squirrel soup...even won a soup contest with it.  Here it is....

Cream of Squirrel Soup

6 squirrels – boiled until tender and meat pulled off bones
¼ cup butter
¼ cup of flour
½ tsp minced garlic
½ cup grated mozerella cheese
2 Tbsp of Cilantro or Parsley
2 cups of squirrel stock (chicken stock works well too)
2 cups of half and half
1 cup of sliced Portobello mushrooms

Melt butter in skillet over medium heat…add garlic and mushrooms…cook for about 5 minutes…add flour and stir well, cook for about one or two minutes.  Add cold broth and bring to a boil stirring constantly….add half and half and bring to a boil stirring constantly.   Add the meat and herbs and continue to cook for about 2 minutes stirring constantly.   If soup is too thick, add half and half until it reaches desired consistency. Remove from heat and add the cheese.

Serve alone, over pasta or over dumplings.

This recipe works with rabbit, chicken or even crab if you don't have any squirrels.  It is the tastiest soup I ever made.
392  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Categorizing Titans haters on: March 16, 2012, 04:06:04 EDT
Good list...I agree. I have a problem with the former Titan haters that will become Titan bandwagoners if Peyton signs with us. I really want to say to those people, "We don't want you or need you, the bandwagon is already full of us real Titan fans."  But that would be childish, so.... IF Peyton signs with us, I will scoot over and make a little room for Lynn on the bandwagon.

Just wondering how many people that were colt fans just because of Peyton are still going to be colt fans.  Guessing they will be dolphin fans now.

Bermuda is the Devil's grass.    It is also called "creeping doom"  because it will creep into every flower bed, every garden, into your neighbors yard, it is truly difficult to ever, EVER get rid of.  If you have a bermuda lawn and love it, then please ignore my comments...they are intended for the...the....good people    We are supposed to have a la nina winter which means warm and mild in the SE...I would do like clock said and plant fescue at about 3:30 this afternoon.  JMO
396  General Boards / Recipe Board / pumpkin pie dip.... on: December 12, 2011, 08:54:21 EST
Okay...this is a really easy recipe.  I am not much of a pumpkin pie fan but this dip is really good, easy to make, and Orange in color!

8 oz cream cheese
1   15 oz can of pumpkin
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Mix it all together and serve with:  apple slices, ginger snap cookies, graham cracker sticks.

I hollow out a small pumpkin and serve the dip in it during the fall months.

398  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: To me the issue with Denton and Kesling is competency on: September 08, 2011, 04:53:25 EDT
Kessling drives me crazy.  I listen to most of the game on the radio and I count on a good broadcast from him....still waiting.  He cannot paint an accurate picture of what is going on.

Example....." Its first down and Poole is in the backfield...he gets the ball.....AND IS HIT AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE for a short gain....looks like it will be second and one.....Check that, it was Neal with the carry.    Second down and Neal gets the ball....AND HE BREAKS A TACKLE...AND DRAGS AN OPPONENT FOR A BIG GAIN......looks like it will be......third and one.   Check that....Poole was back in the game to make that carry."

I CANNOT STAND IT ANYMORE!!!!!       Bob is a nice man...a great Tennessee guy....but he sucks at calling a game.  I have been tired of him for many years.
