Just one question...wasn't Randy Shannon hired as head coach suppossed to be a "straight arrow" and would not put up with the kind of crap that Shapiro was pulling?

Seems like it was a bigger cesspool than Kiffin even thought about creating here.
1002  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Funny video of the wr's and Bray. on: August 19, 2011, 01:20:52 EDT
Blarg, youtube is blocked here at the hospital too.  Word is someone video'd a birthing process and posted it online without the mother's permission.  So the hospital has blocked most social interaction sites.  One person's gotta ruin it for everybody.

It wasn't one person in this case...it was federal law....Social Sites are blocked at most hospitals due to HIPAA privacy concerns...nowadays hospitals and HIPAA are two dirty words to any hospital executive because it usually means someone is going to get into trouble over this....and ti aint just the person posting the video the hospital is considered liable nowadays no matter waht (and the fines are ginormous)

Basically what he closed with was that the same story gets retold every time, only the details change... this time it's prostitutes and money (Miami), then it's tattoos and memorabilia (OSU), then it's academic fraud and trips from agents (UNC), then it's a star player receiving money and a house (U$C), then it's a basketball coach who takes his shirt off at womens' basketball games.

I seriously came close to driving off the road. Bruce Pearl lied about a minor violation. Bruce Pearl was fired. Bruce Pearl deserved to be fired. Neither Bruce Pearl or his program was accused of this sort of widespread corruption, and according to what I know Bruce Pearl never knowingly played ineligible players.

If I hear one more "journalist" lump the Bruce Pearl situation in with the rest of this bullshizzle my head may explode. And using the example of the LV game? I mean, at least say he cheated and lied... that's technically true, although somewhat disingenuous... but using the example of him taking his shirt off just further illustrates how journalism has gone straight to hell.

Bruce screwed the pooch and has paid the price, but he was NOT paying players money to play, he was not providing recruits prostitues to screw on his 1.6 million dollar yacht, he was not having boosters pay for abortions cause a player got someone pregnant, etc etc etc.

Journalists have gotten to the point that they are more Jerry Springer than they are Grantland Rice.....so I say F em and the Jacka$$ they road in on!!

1005  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: SEC happy for now! Thoughts? on: August 16, 2011, 01:26:07 EDT
I could have went either way with it myself. Regardless, the sun is still going to come up and BIG ORANGE FOOTBALL STILL KICKS ARSE!!

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6861385/sec-satisfied-current-alignment-extend-invite-texas-am

The SEC is playing it close to the vest....I have heard some rumouors that negotiations are going on between the UF Pres and AD and the FSU counterparts due to some issues with the ACC opt out clauses in FSU's contract.  FSU wants a piece of the SEC pie and the SEC wants to add FSU and A&M so they can go back to ESPN and renogotiate the current contract since it would add some serious cha ching to the SEC in regards to available content for ESPN to play on thier multitude of outlets.  I predict there will be two other teams invited in for the 2013 year and the SEC will be the first power conference and the stakes will get that much higher in the world of FBS football.

All of this is a big push to create a playoff the ESPN can televise and make oodles of billions more.
1006  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I'm gonna be a daddy next Wednesday, the 17th on: August 16, 2011, 01:18:38 EDT
Congrats, Vinnie.  I hope you have everything glued or nailed down because your world is about to be turned upside down.

BTW, all three of my girls came via C-section.  Just some advice from one dad to another that has faced that......do everything you can to allow her to do nothing else but concentrate on being a mama.  You probably already knew that, but it is worth stating. And understand the emotional state she will be in during the whole process.  It can be stressful, especially if she is breast feeding and the kid ain't catching on quickly.  Hang in there.  No doubt you will be a great dad.

A nurse friend of mine said that playing the "suck suck suck" scene from Spaceballs where Skroob and Company are sucking out the air from Planet Druida is a good scene to help with that problem.
1007  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Well, at least now I know where I am going to live.... on: August 16, 2011, 01:13:47 EDT
....at least for the first 10-12 months.  Wife and I got a rental in the Farragut area, not too far from Kingston Pike and right behind the Wal-Mart in Turkey Creek shopping area.  And speaking of that shopping area, my wife's eyes lit up with all the shopping there and in that whole area.  We currently have to drive 45 minutes to any good shopping. It will now be a 5-10 minute drive.

Driving down on the 31st, with the movers getting there on either the 1st or 2nd. West Knoxville....here we come.

And did you know that the Farragut primary school has 17 Kindergarten classes? 17!  Wow.

Oh, and BTV, we want to put in an order of steak sammiches when we crash your place once we are settled in.

I think I will feel insulted since you did not order any food from the Best Dang Tailgate Crew not on Campus.....

Welcome to Knoxvegas and the best place to live on God's Green Earth....East Tennessee.  You will love the Early Fall and the October color and the wonderful area that we have here.  I can truthfully say that this is the place I want to be for the next fifty years of my life (yes I am gonna live to 100 and will be tailgating when I am 99.)

As to Knology there have been some "issues" with them and the City/County of Knoxville/Knox.  Primarily it is due to some slow build out of Knology services.  Overall I would rank Comcast and Knology about the same for cable...overpriced and customer service of the "great sucking hole in the ground" variety.  I would go with DirecTV since it is the better satellite service than Dish since it has more full time HD channels and a better customer service experience as ranked by JD Powers.  I know that is heresy to some since Charlie Ergin is from Oak Ridge, TN, but I have had DirecTV for almost 14 years now and I can truthfully say it is the best.

But go with Cable internet since it is the better speed and you will get download rates far above DSL.  Right now till the first part of September Comcast is offering a 39.99 rate for Internet access with a 2 year contract.

Welcome to the area and if you need anything from a person that is plugged in to the Knoxville area I can direct you to some good people through some of my contacts.

My sweet husband just found out that he has melanoma....they are going to do a lymph node biopsy next Monday morning to see if it has spread.   If you are of the praying sort, please remember my husband in your prayers and pray that this is contained to the spot on his face.

You tell Dean that he has my prayers my thoughts and my appreciation of him and you also.....and tell him to be well we need you both.

1009  General Boards / PolitiVOL / Re: I can't believe that Al Gore has pointed this finger. on: August 12, 2011, 03:48:55 EDT
The "Ark Park" in KY and it's tax breaks scare the hell out of me!  The Ark Park, really?  Oh well.  The preponderance of evidence supports GW, period. "Green" could be lots of growth, if you bible thumpers would quit kissing BIG OIL, and Coal's ass...  We're already broke because of the same ol, same ol, status quo...  And y'all want more of the same. Well sure.  Go Vols!

Bullshizzle.....I call total bullshizzle on you this time....first of all let us look at data that is contained in databases for the last one hundred and fifty years concerning the temperature average in the summer in New York City.  Over the course of 150 years of climate data the temperature in New York City (one of the oldest temperature monitotring efforts in the country) the average temperature over that period is an increase of 0.1 degrees farneheit.  That is one tenth of one degree increase.  During that time what has occurred in New York City? Yes that is right they have increased the amount of heat sink in New York City by an astounding 3500%.  Thats right the heat sink that is New York City has increased 35000 times than the average temperature has increased.  (BTW a heat sink is anything that absorbs heat and all that concrete in those buildings is a big heat sink.)
Therefore the average temperature in comparison to the growth of heat sink material has FALLEN.  Yep fallen.....

The "world is failing cause we are raising the heat levels" is not a provable fact.  In fact during the Jurrasic period heat levels were higher then than they are.

1013  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: NCAA approves draconian APR adjustment on: August 12, 2011, 12:27:52 EDT
Any team with an APR below 930 (the old standard was 925) is now banned from the postseason.  It was one thing to take a few schollies away, but this will drastically punish any school with a bunch of players who go pro early, or anyone who suffers the attrition that usually comes with a coaching change (see Tennessee, University of).  I think they've gone too far this time.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6853878/ncaa-committee-approves-increase-apr-cutline

This is just the latest in the effort to remove college athletics as a function of universities in America.  Linda Bensel Meyers was a memeber of the group with the avowed aim to remove college athletics and the student athlete from universities and redirect said money to academic interests.  What they dont realize is that money would never make it to any university unless it is for athletics in some shape or fashion.   Once again the academic side is wiping their butts with the leather of their dreams.

We should get some of the pix of Dax running around in the VOL head gear at that tailgate to post for MIAUTIGER so he knows what is going to happen to his kids ...

You know I seem to remember that a certain Bammer poster has not ever paid off from his no shoes bet he made while walking down the road....wasn't he going to dress in orange and sing rocky top on video?

1015  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: First Tailgate on: August 11, 2011, 05:42:17 EDT
Well, that ain't happenin'. I know for a fact that E has never set foot in Alabama. However, he did have me drive him to the state line one time just so he could piss on Bama!

G

Well BG knows he doesn't want to steal me cause he would end up sleeping on his couch all of football season since his wife made him sleep on the couch for a whole week in 2003 after she ate some of my cooking at a tailgate down in Tuscaloosa......

1016  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What about the greatest play? on: August 10, 2011, 06:07:39 EDT
The last 33 minutes or so of the game against uag(ly) after we spotted them 24-7 and came back to hang 51 on them.  As a side note, almost got a blimp ride that night Emeril and I were sitting so high
By the end of the game, Orange out numbered red in the stands at least 2-1.

Yeah I did not know that the blimps were that close to the stadiums they are usually at.....

1023  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: 104 here is west tn. heat index of 117. on: August 05, 2011, 02:37:31 EDT
This is true. I do feel for the folks in Arkansas, where it has been unreasonably hot. And West TN has a little bit of a fair gripe to make, too. But I've laughed at a number of East Tennesseans complaining about the heat this week. This is not unusual...it just feels like early August. I liked Dooley's response this week when the media asked him about practicing in the heat: "This isn't hot. This is cool. If you want hot, go to Alabama, Georgia or Florida. They're hotter than we are, and they're practicing." Of course, the sportscaster playing the clip had to follow with, and I'm paraphrasing, "I don't know where Dooley got his information but we can assure him that it's hot."

Was it in '91 or '92 when UCLA came to town and the temp reading (not the actual temp, but what it felt like) was 120 on the field in early September? Now THAT is hot.

I was at the UCLA game and it was 108 in the stands and the thing I remember was a player coming off the field and throwing up on Johnny Majors some as he came off the field.

So the due date is Aug 29.  However, my wife has been to her Dr. Several times this week and her blood pressure is all over the place.  Today the Dr. said "I don't think you're going to make it till the due date."

Gah!!  I was mentally prepared for still having a month to go!

And so it begins.........
