Oh and I've read two different fan accounts about James Franklin dropping F bombs on the UT crowd. The truth is going to come out about this guy, just a matter of time.

What?...the hell you say?....a coach cussing?.....surely not.....
We had a guy like him, and pretty much everyone loved his shenanigans. Franklin is just doing the same thing Kiffin did.

6  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The "Good" plays comment... on: September 26, 2011, 12:02:08 EDT
One other thing...you can think "statistics are for losers" all you want, but show me a coach that doesn't look at stats, and I will show you a BIG loser.
[/quote]

Nah, I know they all better pay attention to the stats, b/c you are right, stats often define the game.

I just took that comment as you said, " an ass-covering" excuse. I just hate to hear a coach say "well we dominated the clock, run game etc, etc" when they just got their tales kicked, and since DD seems to be a no-nonsense type of guy, I wouldn't expect this type of spin from him, that's all.

I can't stand the Steelers, but everytime Tomlin gets beat, he mans up, gives a "we'll make sure it's fixed" type of speech at the presser and you know he kicks their asses in practice the whole next week. I'm sure he digs into the stats, but he never uses them as a crutch in front of the media after a loss.
7  Sports / VTTW Message Board / The "Good" plays comment... on: September 25, 2011, 10:43:23 EDT
Don't know if this has been discussed or not, but when I heard the 208 good plays comment, it automatically reminded me of old Fulmer quotes after the 'perfect storm' of excuses in "05. Now I want to say that I love DD so far, but I'd love for him to stay away from comments like this. In my mind stats are for losers, I'd love for that to be the approach, this particular comment doesn't lean to that though process. Thoughts?

10  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: For the five people here who care, Chris Johnson has agreed to terms on: September 01, 2011, 10:12:05 EDT
I'm happy that they got it worked out, but I would have had a whole lot more respect for Johnson had he honored the contract that he had previously freely signed and gotten his butt in to training camp from day one like he was obligated to do.  He let his team mates and fans down by not doing that.  There is no way he is going to be 100% ready by the first game, and in the NFL every regular season game means something.

I used to agree with that logic, but since the owners do the same exact thing, I have absolutely no problem with a guy holding out to get more, especially when he outplays his contract, and the owner can pay his salary with just the amount of jerseys that people have bought in that stadium with CJ's number on it.
