Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Best fanbase in the country, and it?s not even close

Third and fourth in Men's football and basketball, respectively. Sadly only 7th in women's basketball. I am sure that was once no.1 by a large margin, with the exception of UConn for the last 15 to 20 years. Hopefully we will be back in the top 3 or 4 in women's basketball before too long. Yeah, I remember during the PHS years they?d average like 16K, UConn was #2 with like 8k, and no one else was even close.

Next weekend should be interesting. UK leads the league at 14-1, but they really haven?t played anyone yet. But neither have we. If history is any indication, it will be low 40s with rain and 40mph gusts in Lexington.

Some serious gamesmanship from CTV this week. Amick had been out after an appendectomy, and all week TV was like, ?He hasn?t even swung a bat in 6 weeks. Maybe we?ll try to get him a pinch hit appearance or two, just to work him back up to speed?. I think they wanted this one bad. LSU?s starter Holman supposedly did us dirty in his portal recruitment last summer.

Also, I think eventually we?ll come to a point where the SEC (and probably the B10) begins to contract. The most obvious candidates are the 4 most recent expansion schools. If they had it to do over again, would they have really added Mizzou and Arkansas? What value do they bring to the league in today?s media landscape? And if Clemson comes on board, there?s really no point in being doubled up in a small state like SC. I?m sure they?d like to keep A&M, but word is they feel burned by the Texas deal. They may leave for the B10 on their own if offered.
Everyone will point to Vandy and MSU, but I don?t think they would give charter members the boot. Especially in vandy?s case, I think the league would like to keep the Nashville market in-house. It?s by far the best road trip destination in the SEC (though Austin will give them a run for their money). Though we may take it for granted, I think a lot opposing fans look forward to that trip, even if they know the game will be dud.

It has long been speculated that ESPN is working behind the scenes. The problem with this deal as he tells it is that FSU and Clemson aren?t the only schools that want out. Would UNC, Miami, UVa and others accept a deal that lets FSU and Clemson go, but keeps themselves locked in for the next 12 years?

Well that sucks. He would?ve been a huge contributor next year. That said, if he didn?t like his playing time, he really has only himself to blame. If could?ve avoided the fouls, he would?ve gotten the same minutes as Aidoo, if not more.
That gives us, what, 5 portal openings now? Let?s hope CRB hits on at least 3 of them. Other than DK, his portal record isn?t the greatest.

author=BanditVol link=topic=44540.msg220332#msg220332 date=1712549417] I think being the all time leading scorer at any school would get attention. But had she gone to any of those other schools, she likely is not the leading score of all time.
I don?t know- I had never heard of the girl whose record Clark broke until she started getting close. Her name is Kelsey Plum, BTW. She went to Washington, and she?s a smokeshow.

Funny thing is, this is a downgrade for Arkansas. Hadn?t musselman been to something like 2 elite 8?s and 2 sweet 16?s over the past 5 seasons? Cal didn?t come close to that, with far more talent.
What worries me is that UK might now get someone like Dan Hurley or Jay Wright.
We?ll see what happens, but this might not be a positive development for us.

Ironically, I don't think she would've gotten anywhere NEAR the notoriety if she had gone there. I think a big part of her universal appeal is that she plays for a team that people aren't sick of. If she had gone to UConn, SC, LSU, or even UT, she's just another great player in a long line of great players. But at Iowa, she's the most recognizable female athlete in the world. Funny how these things work out. I think The Rolling Stones made a song about it.

This is definitely a surprise. I saw her name mentioned but it was sort of dismissed due to her lack of Division I experience.
Maybe she will have the fire to get this program back on track.
Some ADs have big egos. In some cases, that ego translates to ?I?m gonna drop a pallet of cash on Nick Saban?s front lawn and get him to come work for me?. In others, it?s ?I?m gonna ?discover? this D2 coach no one has ever heard of and look like a genius when they win big?. Danny White is clearly the latter. Nate Oates, Lance Liepold, Josh Heupel. Caldwell fits right into that group.

This is definitely an NIL-era hire. I think they?re going to back her with mountains of cash, to negate the recruiting advantage that some of the bigger names in this league would have over her. I?m not sure they would?ve made this hire a few years ago. But her on-court resume is excellent. I think she?ll do well.
