If Leach is the one.... will he get five years?

I believe I already posted this but it bears repeating.... In a country of 340 million people I refuse to believe our only option is Lane kiffin. The man was cruising like gangbusters here and after just the first year. Kicking tail in recruiting also... Then he did something stupid. He wouldn't even listen to his father tell him what a bad idea it was to leave. I want this program to excell. But how can you and in good conscience how can you ask your fellow vol fans, to trust this guy again?

No, you don't give Kiffin the opportunity to stick it to (bone) us again. It is ok to take the heat for being principled. Let's not take it for being ridiculous. If you even fathom Kiffin then why not consider Spurrier? Or has that possibility already dawned on someone and it became a no? There is a right choice out there and it is whoever can amass a good support staff. That is the real key to success.

....first I guess we should make up our minds between the two. Did Shiano get torpedoed because of his association with Sandusky? Or did Shiano get torpedoed because he would make a lousy coach? Nobody is going to like my opinion but here it is... I don't know the extent to which Shiano was associated with Sandusky. But his getting torpedoed being based on a direct knowledge of Sandusky's activities is a credible reason to give negative feedback proactively protecting the student body (no pun intended).
      The purpose for obstructing him being based on his coaching potential is much more subjective. He has credits nearly as good as Butch's were when he was hired. I would also think he risks liability to the recruiting process particularly where parents of the students are concerned. All an opposing coach would have to do to sour the parent or kid to UT is to bring up the Sandusky crap. Yeah, now that I think about it you guys are right.

Well, I made an assumption. We all know how that usually goes. I started that as a preamble to recommending maybe Fulmer. (for AD not coach). I thought better of it though. If I say it someone will take exception to it. And I simply don't have the will, or energy to defend it.

If we had an AD that knows Tennessee then this wouldn't be happening. Working for Urban may have lulled the guy into thinking it's water under the bridge. What actually did happen to him for his complicity through silence?

Right about now is when we usually start hearing the 'he's too loyal to his position coaches' excuse. I'm not gonna bash the guy I simply have nothing left in the tank with which to defend him. I held out real hope for his success.... Sometimes it just doesn't make a good fit no matter how many people want it to.

I don't watch press conferences generally. I would say that Coach Jones is likely more disappointed than anyone else. I would have difficulty being nice & graceful today. That aside, everything was still on track until Saturday night even with all the injuries. The offense was statistically remarkable against tamu. And infamous for 7 turnovers. Then the bama ass whipping, but still on track. Jones ain't going anywhere. So, as a fan, he has to get a pass. What choice do I have? ;) I think we will see a new OC & OL coach at a minimum. I'm no football expert, but I do know just a couple players or even coaches can lead to big swings in success, or failure at this level.

There is constructive criticism and then there is bashing. A number of subjects have appeared on the board critical of how the team was trending but because it was not an all out assault upon Butch some people just don't notice. Such as everyone made reference to the team not putting 4 quarters together these past two seasons. Everyone made reference to Dobbs not being very good in the vertical game. You can't take credit (I told you so) for telling people what they already know.

Does anyone not give Butch a break for the insane amount of injuries to this team?

I don't have a problem giving him a pass if he would just learn to face adversity with a little more grace.

Sorry, but you are wrong again. It may now look like the program is stalled... but for the previous three years it was not. Just because people are sour to Butch now does not vindicate your positions the past three years. I'm a more patient person... It isn't going to hurt my feelings to give Butch a pass on this year main reason being massive injuries. It only depends on who replaces him if I will like it or hold my nose and once again... support the poor btard they put there.

Injuries have definately hurt this team. But this team performed bad without injuries too. Appy State, Ohio were not great performances. UGa was exciting but not a great performance. As it looks now, we should have beat them easily and not luckily.

My take on the coaching is you can't be very imaginative when you are limited by player experience (and possibly talent). It is a different way to say what BDV said. The team pulled a couple of rabbits out of their hat. Then they ran into the meat of their schedule while they were crippled. What is it 11+ starters out? One of the reasons the vols were so highly thought about at the beginning of the year were the returning starters? Well about half of them have not been on the field.

If it happens tell him to clean up the blood before he leaves. Wonder if they have a hasmat team on call?

I just saw the hit on Evan on sec in 60... That was clearly targeting. He actually got hit twice on that play. The first hit where he coughed up the ball should have been flagged. The second hit was incidental while the A&M player was going for the fumble.

Yeah you don't want to fall into the inenviable position of having to defend liking the opposite gender.

Pretty good defense for a 7 turnover game and it is done with smoke and mirrors considering the injuries.
