The fans light up the internet and radio talk shows calling the coach all sorts of things. And with the salaries that the coaches get I guess that comes with the job.

But............... https://atozsportsnashville.com/vols-reminder-that-jeremy-pruitt-tennessee-football-coach/?fbclid=IwAR24ep2UB-aYspewDNQpk4YGdQzY547_GzkZzLp4W1Nc5k7aNCOuDCi8jzE

No, no, and hell no.

Yes, his grandfather is ill and that's hard for him to deal with.  But every person on the face of the earth deals with sick relatives.  Being high profile doesn't give special consideration.

Hell fire, my father died in July, and not from anything covid related.  We had to stand at the damned window of the hospice and tell him goodbye, after not being able to see him at his assisted living facility for the prior 3 months because of covid restrictions in Knox County.  And then the law said we couldn't even sing Dad's favorite hymns at the funeral of my retired Pastor father, which we had to limit to 30 people in attendance.

I'm sorry, I'm not buying his being beyond criticism because he has a sick grandparent.  He chose to put himself in a high profile position.  With that comes the public scrutiny.

If one thinks that makes me an #badword#, then so be it.  I really don't care.

I can't believe they even went there. Yes it sucks to have an illness in the family. I hope God blesses them. But it's a cross we all have to bare. I think it's a chickencrap thing to use as an excuse for anything Vol related. But Pruitt is the one who put it out there.

My point isn't that he is excused from not being successful or doing a bad job. Or that he shouldn't be criticized for his job performance.

The point is that he is a human being who is trying to do well even if he isn't doing so. Just because they are being paid a lot and not being successful doesn't mean they are horrible human beings. And the crux of the article was not that we should give him a break because a relative was sick. It was that a lot of people considered him to be a good person. No one offered an excuse for his performance.

No one forced UT to hand him the big contract and extension with a big buyout. Hell, if they want to pay me several million a year to coach, I'll take it. After about a day they will see that I don't have any idea what I'm doing and they will pay me several more millions to leave.

I'm sure he is a good person. That is truly commendable. So are most of us. That is the main point of the article. But from a football coaching standpoint he is far from good. He knew what he was getting into when he signed the contract. No one wishes him ill will on a personal level.

Hate, no.

But I'm not the only one ready to see him move on for several reasons.
