You beat me to it. I'd rather be sad a coach leaves than wish he would.

After a country wide search, Danny will eventually travel to the 3rd base coaching box and introduce Elander as the new HC

Well dang! Hope he has a long, successful run. He better hope the Giants are willing to spend unlimited money like the Dodgers do.

If a coach wants to show up, win some titles, give the program great exposure, and then depart I'll be sad, but not complain.

Appreciate what he's done for UT.  But really bummed.  It wasn't supposed to end this soon.

He told LSU no when we still had the crappiest facilities in the SEC. Then he turned down Texas and A&M. I guess it's hard to turn down a MLB job. But he accomplished the mission. "Leave it better than you found it"? Yeah, just a tad better, I'd say. I wish him well. But if he pulls a Saban and comes back to coach one of our rivals in a couple years, he's dead to me.

So you gotta hand the keys to Elander, right? Don't overthink this, Danny.

If true...it will be easier to wind up at LSU...ARK...coming from the MLB than leaving UT and going to another college program. That's where it headed. Makes no sense him going with zero MLB experience....even minor league. I don't see his coaching style in the MLB....or GameDay Xs and Os. He's made for recruiting and college ball.

With what very little I know about baseball, the move makes very little sense to me.

It's not the money, with cost of living and taxes in CA.

Just the allure and prestige, I guess?

Here's my worthless theory.

He grew up in baseball central: St. Louis. Even though he's not a Cardinals fan, the way professional baseball dominates sports coverage in the Midwest probably affects how he sees the world.

He has a chance to work for his friend in professional baseball. Good for him chasing that dream.
