It was sitting on my DVR and I needed the space.  I have only had a DVR for two years, and I kept the best game from 2010 (Ole Miss) and the vandy game from last year to watch during the slow summer months.

Anyway...dayum, I had already forgotten that Bray threw TWO picks for TDs in that game, and that our D was outstanding for the most part, even though it was vandy.    I think given the season-ending loss to UK, my mind did a memory scrub of the previous game.

But I really have no interest in a detailed re-hashing of last season at this point, but time gives a larger perspective that it was easy to overlook in the "heat of battle" from last season.  Which is this...

last year we won only ONE SEC game, and it was against Vandy in overtime.

If you were to back up to any previous period of our history, at least for the last 30 years, that would simply be unthinkable.

Somehow, for me at least, this was easy to miss, because in the heat of last season, one could rationalize that we might have, under different circumstances, beaten any one of UF, UGA, USC and played Arkansas much closer, while accepting that LSU and bammer were far better than us.  (Of course, losing to UK is unacceptable under any circumstances).

Rationalizations aside, when you realize again that we ONLY BEAT VANDY IN OT, it DEFINITELY puts things in perspective.  Which is this.  WE SUCK.  We have a long way to go, and I hope we make substantial progress this fall.

Football interlude over.

This sums up everything. Yet people constantly tell me I lost perspective solely because of the UK game.

Things ain't right in our football program.

You're right, and the only thing about not beating USC, uga, or uf, losing so badly to arkansas, and particularly losing to uk, that might possibly be good, is that it at least exposes the ugly truth once and for all.  No more rationalizations, PARTICULARLY from our head coach.  We suck, we need to improve, let's get on with it.

BTW...not that it matters, but I meant to add that I fast-forwarded through the game and caught the high points, and then erased it.  Not worth keeping and needed the space on my DVR.  I wanted to check the highlights before deleting, and it got me thinking.

We had one of the worst running game in the nation. That alone will make it pretty hard to win SEC games. We also lost our starting QB for a major portion of the season and lost our best WR. Dooley, in his second year, was hit pretty hard with some rotten luck...IMO he actually did a better job his first year with a younger team.

It's fairly obvious a few of the coaches we lost also abandoned ship.

I don't know if CDD will make it or not, but he's recruited well, and it appears he has replaced the coaches who left with some good coaches, perhaps even better ones. He's going to get the chance to get it done, but he has to run the ball much better, and there really can't be any excuses this year for that. We'll see. I think he has to win 8 games this year to escape the heat. I am rooting for him.
