Maybe I don't know squat about football but, I did not see anything wrong/late/cheap shot about that play.

No...not really. Of course in the NFL that hit would get you a fine. In the NFL there is about a 12 inch square above the belt and below the shoulder pads where you can actually hit a QB without getting a flag and a fine.
